Arsenal fans drool over Bukayo Saka’s goal-scoring performance at Bournemouth

Having made his breakthrough under Unai Emery, Bukayo Saka seems to be continuing in the same vein of form under recently-appointed head coach Mikel Arteta.

The 18-year-old made a total of 15 appearances across all competitions under Arteta’s predecessor, scoring once and providing a further four assists. And whilst a new manager coming in may have seen him fade out of the spotlight, Saka has appeared to kick on another level.

Playing at left-back against Bournemouth in the FA Cup fourth round on Monday night, the academy product scored one and made one.

And after seeing his display, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the winger.

A couple of supporters of the north London side felt Saka could be the new Ashley Cole.

A couple of fans compared Saka to Arsenal’s current left-back options, with one supporter in particular insisting he is “way better than” Kieran Tierney.

What a meteoric rise Saka has enjoyed this season. The fact the teenager is still continuing to shine in an unfamiliar role at left-back really goes to show his commitment to the cause. As is the case with modern football, young players nowadays get the world handed to them in terms of money.

Can you name all of these obscure Arsenal signings? Give it a go now!

But Arsenal’s academy product appears to have his priorities in order, and is showing signs of major development under both Emery and now Arteta. And with Tierney and Sead Kolasinac still out injured, you wouldn’t bet against Saka nailing down the first-team spot at left-back.

Meanwhile, this Arsenal starlet has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Ronaldo.

Celtic fans are concerned as Rangers close in on Steven Davis deal

Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring Southampton midfielder Steven Davis back to Ibrox, and Celtic fans have been quick to react to the story on Twitter.

Steven Gerrard’s men are said to be keen to quickly conclude a deal for the Northern Ireland international, who has fallen completely out of favour with the Premier League club this term after six-and-a-half years on the south coast of England.

The Glasgow giants are only behind their Old Firm rivals on goal difference following their 1-0 win before the winter break, and Scottish Premiership title race is very much on as we head into 2019.

Celtic supporters took to social media to share their thoughts on the deal, and rather than laugh at their arch-enemies for bringing a 34-year-old to Ibrox to boost their title hopes, these fans were more concerned and troubled by the deal.

While one said “people laughing at Sevco going for Steven Davis know little about football”, another said “we are in big trouble here”.

Rangers fans stunned by Ejaria showing vs Rapid Wien

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to their Thursday night win over Rapid Wien, and they’re heaping praise on Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria.

Alfredo Morelos once again grabbed the headlines on Thursday, as the Colombian’s brace fired the Gers to the top of group G.

Steven Gerrard reverted back to a 4-3-3 after experimenting with two up front in the defeat at Livingston, and the change back to a single striker certainly worked.

While Morelos was the star of the show, scoring the first and third goals and winning the penalty for the second, the midfield was fantastic as well.

Lassana Coulibaly worked his socks off in the holding role, and Ejaria once again showed his class.

The 20 year-old has immense talent, and Rangers fans are stunned by his ability on the ball.

It should perhaps come as no surprise that a young central midfielder is developing so well under Gerrard, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions to his display down below…

Tottenham fans would prefer to sign another winger instead of Wilfried Zaha

According to reports in The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a cash-plus-player bid for £60m-rated Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha, and Spurs fans have been quick to react with names of players they want instead.

The Mirror report that the north London outfit are willing to offer their neighbours from the capital Moussa Sissoko and money to try and bring the Ivory Coast international to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to add a new dimension to his attacking options.

However, they have also been linked with a whole host of other names this summer including Anthony Martial, Christian Pulisic and Malcom, and it seems as though they are among the names that would be preferred over a player that flopped when he made a big-money move to Manchester United previously.

Tottenham supporters, some of whom have reacted to a bizarre link with a prolific centre-forward, took to social media to give their thoughts on the latest transfer rumour, and while one said “I like Zaha but would prefer Pulisic or Martial”, another said “why get Zaha when you can get Malcom or Pulisic for cheaper”.

Leeds United fans baffled club have loaned out new signing

Leeds United have secured another signing in the form of midfielder Ouasim Bouy from Juventus.

The Championship outfit announced the news on Wednesday, confirming that the versatile player has penned a four-year contract.

However, instead of throwing him into first-team contention, the club have decided to loan him out to Spanish second division club Cultural Leonesa.

Bouy can play as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, and some fans are scratching their heads about the decision to offload him temporarily.

The Whites have plenty of options in midfield, but at the back, only Pontus Jansson, Matthew Pennington and Liam Cooper are available for head coach Thomas Christiansen.

On top of that, Jansson is suspended for Leeds’ first Championship game of the season this Sunday against Bolton Wanderers.

The fans took to Twitter to give their views on the club’s latest transfer deal, with many happy to sign Bouy but frustrated that he will not be at the club this season.

Swansea & Everton battle for assist-king Ravet, Southampton also keen

Swansea, Everton and Southampton are all keen on signing Young Boys ace Yoric Ravet, according to reports from The Mirror and French outlet L’Equipe.

What’s the word?

As is customary with the transfer window, Premier League sides are set to go toe-to-toe with each other for the services of Young Boys ace Yoric Ravet- with Swansea, Everton and Southampton all said to hold an interest in the 27-year-old.

The French midfielder only signed for his current side last year but has thoroughly impressed, netting six goals and providing 16 assists in all competitions- which has got Europe talking and many clubs eyeing a move.

Ravet could end up in the Premier League, with the trio of aforementioned sides expressing an interest, making it anyone’s guess where he’ll end up.

Who needs him most?

Everton are been in-and-out of form this season and Ronald Koeman has made it clear he wants to improve the attack in his side, having already seen a swoop for Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson fail. Ravet may not have Premier League experience but he would be a decent signing.

Southampton, meanwhile, are another side who have been in-and-out of form this season and Pavet would perhaps not get guaranteed football at St Mary’s- which isn’t the case at the final interested club, Swansea City.

Rooted to the bottom of the table, Swansea need all the help they can get and the potential arrival of Ravet would certainly be a huge boost- as his goals and assists could help the Welsh side fight back this season to avoid relegation.

Tottenham manager slams players after disappointing 2-1 Europa League loss

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has slammed his players following their 2-1 loss against Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday, Daily Mail reports,

Pochettino was livid with the prospect that Spurs are now under pressure to qualify from the Europa group stages ahead of trip to Bournemouth this weekend.

“We started the game very well,” he said.

“After 10 minutes we scored, we created two or three chances more and when you concede the chance to the opponent to get back into the game the way we did the dynamic changes. We lost our focus and after 10 minutes changed the game completely.

“This was our problem and we need to learn. We are young but if you are the best team on the pitch after 10 minutes and you believe you can win the game you need to win the game. We lost our focus.

“I am angry, frustrated, disappointed. I don’t know which word to describe me.

“We need to be focused for 90 min, 95 min. Football is like this. We are under pressure now. We have to win but I am happy about that. We need to feel the pressure. Because if not, after 10 minutes it seemed like it was an easy game and we have lost.”

The Lilywhites went into the lead via Christian Erikssen early in the clash, but then went on to miss several good chances to add to their tally.

And they were punished for their poor finishing as Guillaume Gillet made it 1-1 before ex-Fulham striker Stefano Okaka sealed a victory for the Belgian club.

The result leaves Tottenham on four points tied with Anderlect, with Monaco in the lead with five while Qarabag are bottom with three.

Pochettino also risked an injury to Harry Kane, with the Argentina manager throwing on his star striker when the game was tied at 1-1 despite him carrying a knock.

Ahead of Saturday's Welsh derby against Newport at the Racecourse Ground, manager Phil Parkinson has given encouraging updates about two key players who are close to a return to full fitness. Fletcher has been absent since picking up a knee injury that required surgery in late October. Meanwhile, Arsenal loanee Okonkwo suffered a facial injury last month which also required an operation.

Speaking to the press ahead of a busy festive period, Parkinson announced that Fletcher had returned to training alongside full-back Ryan Barnett, although he could not put an exact date on his first-team comeback. "Fletch and Barney have been back involved this week," said the Wrexham boss. "We are just assessing them to see how the week progresses but it is good to get them back on the training ground. The good thing for Fletch is that when he joined us, he came in without a pre-season and this injury has allowed us an opportunity for the medical team to do a lot of fitness work with him."

On Okonkwo, Parkinson added: "Arthur's been back with us a couple of days now so we are pleased with that. We will just keep monitoring him on a day-to-day basis. He has a protective guard and has looked fine so far. He hasn't trained fully yet, just non-contact, but he is getting his handling back going and his kicking. We are gradually easing him back in but it's good to get him back up here and it's good to get him back involved with the lads again."

Wrexham fans will be cheered by the news of players returning ahead of a busy period that may well shape the rest of their promotion push, and will hope to see Fletcher back partnering star striker Paul Mullin in the final third as soon as possible. Wrexham's injuries had been mounting ahead of their postponed trip to Forest Green a fortnight ago but appear to be easing ahead of a run of four games in nine days.

A PRIMEIRA GRANDE CHANCE

RESPONDEU BEM

England winners and losers as James shines but Williamson injury casts a shadow over Arsenal following Lionesses mixed international break

The Lionesses beat world champions United States at a sold-out Wembley on Friday, but were held to a 0-0 draw by the Czech Republic four days later

England could not have played their part in two more contrasting fixtures this week – hitting an incredible high before crashing back down to earth a little bit.

On Friday, they beat the world champions, the U.S. women's national team, in a thrilling game of football that entertained throughout with the exciting attackers on show and, quite frankly, the sloppy defending that went with it.

But Tuesday was quite different. A goalless draw against a Czech Republic side they were expected to beat didn't cause the same stir, neither in the result nor the performance.

So with another international break wrapped up, GOAL picks out the winners and losers from the Lionesses' latest preparation for next summer's World Cup…

GettyWINNER: Sarina Wiegman

Wiegman came into the international break with her unbeaten record as England boss about to be seriously tested, as her team faced the world champions.

However, she emerged with it intact: 24 games played, 21 wins, three draws and no defeats. It maintains the longest ever run without defeat for any England team – bettering the run of 22 games that Gareth Southgate's side achieved from November 2020 to June 2022.

But it's not the fact her team didn't lose that makes Wiegmann a winner. The victory over the USWNT was a huge statement and massive for this squad's ever-growing confidence. It was a test against one of the world's best sides and perfect preparation for the 2023 World Cup.

The game with the Czech Republic was nowhere near as enthralling or headline-grabbing, but it was an important match to play. There's no doubt the Lionesses will come up against teams that frustrate them like this looking ahead to next summer's tournament, and this match will be an important one to look back on as they form game plans for those tests.

Wiegman got exactly what she wanted from this international window.

AdvertisementGettyLOSER: Arsenal

It might have been a successful camp for England in that sense, but it wasn't without negatives. Most of those came in the build-up to the game against the U.S., as three players had to withdraw due to injury.

Alessia Russo's issue was described as just a "small" problem and hopefully Lucy Parker will not be set back for long with what is a muscle injury. However, there is still no news about the third player to pull out – the England captain, Leah Williamson.

For the Lionesses, it's a shame but not a debilitating loss at this time in their tournament cycle. For Arsenal, however, it is concerning.

The Gunners kick off their Women's Champions League group-stage campaign next week in the most difficult place possible – away to Lyon, the reigning European champions and eight-time winners. With Rafaelle, their Brazilian centre-back, having just fractured her foot, Williamson's absence leaves the English side down to two centre-backs as the season prepares to enter its busiest period.

Given how tough a group Jonas Eidevall's side have got in Europe, to lose Williamson for a significant period of time would be a massive blow.

GettyWINNER: Lauren James

Wiegman isn't known for making many changes to her teams or handing out appearances for the sake of it. So when the line-up came out for Tuesday evening's clash with the Czech Republic and Lauren James, Chelsea's fleet-footed 21-year-old, was in it, there was some surprise.

It was as if James played with the thought in her head that these chances are rare and she had to take it, too, as she lit up the pitch every time she touched the ball on what was her full England debut.

Facing an opposition that were tough to break down, the creativity and directness in her play was a real asset and almost led to the deadlock being broken when she rattled the post in the opening minutes.

Her night lasted just over an hour but she certainly made her mark in the time she was on the field.

GettyLOSER: Chloe Kelly

Chloe Kelly was the hero in the summer, the player who is the centre of the defining image of England's Euro 2022 triumph, her celebration after scoring the winning goal in the final hitting the front of every newspaper the morning after.

However, she is one of many talented wide players at Wiegman's disposal and getting a starting role in this team, ahead of players like Lauren Hemp and Beth Mead, remains a challenge.

Kelly got a chance to show what she could do from the start in this camp, with the front line rejigged to make up for Russo's absence. But the 24-year-old struggled to get involved in both games, despite being in both line ups.

There's no question over the talent Kelly has and she'll just hope she can show that more in the next international window. After all, the competition for those forward positions is only growing as players like James start to settle in.
