Liverpool fans in awe of Mane’s tenacity after snap emerges

Having already crowned him Man of the Match on Saturday, Liverpool fans on Twitter have been lavishing even more praise upon Sadio Mane after a picture emerged showing him being kicked in the head while scoring the winning goal against Aston Villa.

The winger nodded home from a corner late on to rescue all three points for Liverpool this weekend, but a picture emerged after the game showing that it was more than just your bog-standard header.

Indeed, Mane put his body on the line to score the late goal for his team as he was kicked in the face just moments after connecting with the ball.

While we’re sure that the kick was rather painful, Mane wouldn’t have minded as the three points will be worth so much more to him.

This is exactly the type of thing that a team needs if they’re going to become champions of England, and with the Reds five points clear at the top of the table, they’re in a good place to go on and win their first Premier League title.

Here’s what the Anfield faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Arsenal fans don’t want Mourinho to succeed Emery

Arsenal fans on Twitter have been discussing the prospect of Jose Mourinho becoming their next manager.

It’s no secret that a portion of the Gunners’ fanbase want to see Unai Emery sacked from his current role, but would they accept Mourinho, 56, as his replacement?

One fan asked on Twitter whether or not the supporters would like to see the former Chelsea boss appointed, and unsurprisingly, the answer was an overwhelming no.

You can’t blame them one bit for having this view. Mourinho was the bane of many Arsenal fans’ existence during his time at Stamford Bridge, and he has previously disrespected Arsene Wenger by calling him a ‘voyeur’ and a ‘specialist in failure’.

Whether or not Mourinho would be a success at the Emirates is inconsequential to a number of these fans as some stated that his disrespect towards Wenger has put him permanently in their bad books.

Barcelona fans react to Goal’s Team of the Decade on Twitter

With the 2010s slowly coming to an end, Goal decided to compile the strongest XI of the last decade and they posted it recently on their site.Naturally, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are leading the way up front but those two just might be the only two players that have not really been debated hotly by readers.Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

And naturally, with only Messi, Sergio Busquets and the former Blaugrana player Dani Alves making the list of Barcelona players in the lineup, many of their fans were clearly unhappy with it.

It seemed to bug them that the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol were nowhere to be seen and many of them expressed their emotions on Twitter, where the lineup was labelled comical and the whole team a joke.

It’s safe to say many of the fans were simply not in agreement with Goal’s choices.

You can see some of their reactions down in the tweets below:

Arsenal fans blown away by William Saliba display

Arsenal fans were blown away by William Saliba’s commanding performance for Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 over the weekend.

The defender, who was signed by the Gunners in a £27m deal in the summer, only to be loaned back to the French club, has made two starts in the French top-flight thus far this season.

His second came on Sunday, as Saint-Etienne beat Bordeaux 1-0 thanks to a 92nd-minute goal from Denis Bouanga.

Per WhoScored, the 18-year-old, who was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur prior to agreeing a deal to join the Gunners, had 50 touches of the ball throughout the game, winning three aerial duels and one tackle, while also making three interceptions and two clearances.

Arsenal fans were impressed with his display and a number of fans are now counting down the time towards his return to north London at the end of the season.

Manchester United fans are livid after new reports suggest no January transfers

Manchester United are currently sat 12th in the Premier League table and might be ruing letting so many players leave in the summer. Reports from the Manchester Evening News have suggested that the club look set for a ‘difficult’ winter window and fans are furious.

Allowing the likes of Romelu Lukaku, who scored an impressive 42 goals in 96 appearances, to leave has led to extreme struggles for the club in front of goal. Since the Belgian departed, Marcus Rashford has led the line and has scored just one Premier League goal from open play and continuously put in shocking performances, such as his 2/10-rated dismal showing against Newcastle United.

In the centre of the pitch, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to bring in new faces after allowing Marouane Fellaini to move to China and did not find a replacement for Ander Herrera when he moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

Defensively, United have become more sound than last season, however, with a +1 goal difference so far, compared to the -1 they had by this point last year, partly thanks to the additions of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The reports do suggest United are in for another slow transfer window, and should this be the case, Solskjaer could be in further trouble.

Here’s what the fans have had to say…

Celtic fans slam Charlie Nicholas after predicting Rennes victory

Celtic supporters are less than happy with ex-Parkhead striker Charlie Nicholas after his prediction that Celtic will lose in Rennes, and his accusation that the Hoops get “scared” playing away from home in Europe.

Admittedly, Celtic’s history of away results in the past has been less than impressive – they lost four and won only two of their eight European games last season – but their form this term has been much improved with their Champions League qualifier results showing a 3-1 away win at Sarajevo, a 2-0 away win at Nomme Kalju FC and a 1-1 draw away to Cluj.

Celtic then dropped into the Europa League after their exit to Cluj and recorded an impressive 4-1 away victory at AIK.

Celtic have been free scoring this season, netting an impressive 18 times in five top flight games, and with their defence holding strong, conceding only thrice in the league, the Hoops fans have every right to believe a result could be on the cards going into the first Europa League group fixture on Thursday.

Nicholas disagrees, and that has not been popular amongst the Celtic faithful.

The reaction on Facebook wasn’t great …

Twitter was equally vocal in its condemnation …

Some of the criticism was a little bizarre … but still funny!

Some were so angry there weren’t even prepared to be charitable … even when Nicholas himself had been!

Celtic fans are fiercely protective of their club and they clearly feel that Nicholas, an ex-player, should be more supportive.

It’s not criticism that bothers most Celtic fans but the way it is delivered, in what appears to be total negativity.

These kind of comments are just a taste of the overall strength of feeling about these particular remarks.

Liverpool fans should pay attention to Kai Havertz against Lokomotiv Moscow

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Kai Havertz is no stranger to Liverpool fans with Bild linking him to the Reds throughout the summer, and he is one to watch as Bayer Leverkusen take on Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday.

He became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to reach 50 games, and since making his debut for Leverkusen is has gone on to score 30 and assist 22 in 110 appearances, leading to a reported asking price of €100m.

This season he has started reasonably well, and because of his previous form it is easy to forget he is so young, but the fixture against Lokomotiv Moscow could allow him the chance to shine.

Leverkusen will likely look to dominate possession as they have done in the league so far, averaging 58% possession, and that should provide Havertz with the chance to get ahold of the ball in useful positions, and his effectiveness in the final third could be crucial to a home win.

The midfielder’s pass accuracy shows he doesn’t waste much, and a success rate of 85%, as per WhoScored, is impressive for a player who often looks for that killer pass.

That aspect of his game is what he could add to Liverpool, as their current central midfielders lack the ability to cut open the defence, or go for goal themselves, as evidenced by their goal and assist record last season.

By contrast, the German struck 20 times in the last campaign, and will be looking to add to his single goal this term against the Russians, though his average of 1.8 key passes per game also means that he may claim his first assist.

Due to his asking price and what he has shown so far, there may be pressure on Havertz to perform, but if he sticks to his natural game he should do well.

Along with his passing, he also has an eye for goal and generally keeps the ball well when in possession, whether passing or running with the ball. He has averaged two successful dribbles per game so far and that ability to take defenders on makes him unpredictable, which is suitable not only for the Champions League, but for Liverpool too.

Leeds fans react as Marcelo Bielsa reveals potential changes could be on the cards

[ad_pod ]

Four games into the new Championship season and Marcelo Bielsa could finally be about to make some changes to his starting XI.

Ahead of their clash against Wigan, he revealed that his entire team would be the same as the one that featured against Nottingham Forest which could have granted the Latics a large advantage.

As it happened, the Whites still went onto win.

However, with a match against Brentford now on the horizon, there are some injury doubts with Liam Cooper, Barry Douglas and Ezgjan Alioski all potentially unavailable.

As a result, Bielsa noted the following:

It led to a host of Leeds fans debating his words, some appearing more concerned than others.

One took issue with the fact that the Argentine was again disclosing his team selection in a press conference as another simply said he does what he wants.

Other supporters had a greater sense of perspective. A further individual claimed that moving Jamie Shackleton and Stuart Dallas into those two roles was a sensible move. It was also claimed that Bielsa knows best.

Shackleton played a period of last season at right-back so should be comfortable with the role. As for Dallas, he featured at left-back in the playoffs against Derby last season, scoring twice.

Here’s some of the discussion.

Manchester United should heed Zlatan’s Paul Pogba verdict

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to the BBC, ex-Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told his former club to simply grant Paul Pogba’s wishes this summer and allow the midfielder to leave if he wants to.

What did he say?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Pogba could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer, and it was claimed that Real Madrid were feeling “increasingly confident” that they could get their man.

Now, Ibrahimovic has weighed in on things and suggested that the Red Devils replace Pogba with someone who wants to play for the club.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

As quoted by The Manchester Evening News, he said: “If he doesn’t want to stay it makes no sense to keep him. If he wants to be somewhere else, that is where you let him go. Use the situation and bring somebody that wants to stay. The dressing room, the players respect each other, they understand each others’ situation.

“The club worries more and the management because you don’t want a player in your club or in your team that doesn’t want to stay because you know he won’t give 100 or 200 per cent. Or he does that and still he doesn’t want to stay so it’s a tricky situation. The best (thing to do) is what is the best for the club. That is what you have to look at.”

Listen to Zlatan

If Zlatan says something, then people need to sit up and listen to Zlatan. The Swedish star is no stranger to the kind of flamboyant personality that Pogba exudes, and is equally right in suggesting that United should simply move on from the midfielder.

Pogba’s talents are undoubted, but having stated his intentions to experience a “new challenge” this summer, it is difficult to see a way back for the Frenchman at Old Trafford. The Red Devils shouldn’t tolerate players who don’t have total commitment to the cause, regardless of how good they are. As Ibrahimovic says, the best thing to do in the situation will be always be what’s best for the club – not the player.
