Revealed: The referees Man City will want to see more of in future

There is always that one referee who fans hate seeing in the middle of the pitch when their team is playing.

They get a lot of criticism, but the introduction of the likes of VAR and goalline technology has helped them make fewer mistakes. Sort of.

Over the last decade, Man City haven’t had a great deal to worry about when it comes to referees. When you’re winning almost every week it’s difficult to find a reason to criticise the man in the middle.

But a recent referees report by TOFFS has revealed the referees Man City didn’t get much luck with during the Premier League over the course of the last 10 years.

Mark Clattenburg, Kevin Friend and Martin Atkinson all oversaw the fewest Man City wins when taking charge of their games, while Mike Dean is the man who has shown City players the most cards during that period – 93!

Neil Swarbrick, who has officiated 10 Man City games, has the highest win ratio with a huge 90%!

Time mais odiado?

-A gente sente. Eu sou do (RIo Grande do) Sul, a maioria da torcida lá é Grêmio e Inter, mas existe essa torcida anti-Corinthians. É só ver: maior rival do São Paulo é o Corinthians, do Santos é o Corinthians, do Palmeiras é o Corinthians.

Sunderland: Roy Keane could become Azerbaian’s next national team coach

Former Sunderland manager Roy Keane is reportedly set to take over international side Azerbaijan with talks ongoing between the two parties.

The 48-year-old followed up his playing career by going into management with the Black Cats back in 2006. Spending two years with the Wearsiders, the former Republic of Ireland midfielder took the club back into the Premier League in 2007, winning 42 of his 100 games in charge.

Leaving Sunderland in December 2008, Keane would go on to have a spell with Ipswich Town whilst also appearing on television as a pundit.

Having had international experience alongside Martin O’Neill for his native Republic of Ireland, Keane is now on the verge of a deal with Azerbaijan.

In a statement, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) said that the former Sunderland boss was just one of many targets they are pursuing.

“Along with several other candidates, Roy Keane is on the list of the specialists negotiated by AFFA for the appointment for the position of the head coach of the Azerbaijan national team.

“As we reported earlier, taking into account the current situation and the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic around the world, it has not yet been possible to submit any candidate to the Executive Committee for discussion and finalise the terms of the contract.”

As shown by his recent criticism of Harry Maguire and David de Gea, Keane is a hugely opinionated TV pundit who has only had one head coach position since leaving Sunderland in 2008, so it would be very intriguing to see how he fares out if he is given the Azerbaijan job.

Quite why Azerbaijan is the next test for him is anyone’s guess but he could make the most out of a rather strange career move, just as he did at the Stadium of Light in getting the Black Cats into the Premier League and keeping them there.

Sunderland fans, do you think Keane would make a good international manager? Let us know in the comments section below…

Man United’s Andreas Pereira silences doubters vs Brighton

When Sunday’s starting XI was announced, one name drew copious ire from the Manchester United faithful – Andreas Pereira.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown an elevated loyalty to the Belgium-born Brazil international this season; despite entering the weekend with just a solitary assist to his name, the 23-year-old midfielder had featured in all but one of United’s 11 Premier League games by that point, more significantly starting 10 of them.

Perhaps understandably then, some supporters questioned why he was being selected ahead of Juan Mata, a well-established No.10 with 41 Spain caps and 110 Premier League goal involvements on his CV, with one fan even describing Solskjaer’s selection decision as a ‘sucker punch’.

Others, meanwhile, simply fumed at the fact Pereira had been selected for the top flight clash against Brighton as United looked to bounce back from defeat away at Bournemouth. One fan declared that he ‘brings absolutely nothing to the team’.

But it was the 5 foot 10 creator who ended up having the last laugh, silencing his critics by opening the scoring for United. He peeled into space on the edge of the box and applied a finish to Anthony Martial’s delivery that hit an incoming Brighton defender before ballooning past a helpless Mat Ryan into the back of the net.

Perhaps there was a slice of fortune about Pereira’s first goal of the season but it proved to be just one aspect of a productive and busy performance. The one-time PSV youngster created the second-most chances of any United player after Martial with three, completed one dribble and landed the joint-most shots on target of any United player alongside Marcus Rashford – three again.

Whether this proves to be something of a turning point for Pereira remains to be seen – an advanced midfielder for a club of United’s quality should have more than just two goal involvements to his name at this point in the Premier League campaign.

But Pereira certainly hushed the starting XI critics on Sunday, vindicating Solskjaer’s decision to give him the nod over the seemingly more popular Mata.

Liverpool fans in awe of Mane’s tenacity after snap emerges

Having already crowned him Man of the Match on Saturday, Liverpool fans on Twitter have been lavishing even more praise upon Sadio Mane after a picture emerged showing him being kicked in the head while scoring the winning goal against Aston Villa.

The winger nodded home from a corner late on to rescue all three points for Liverpool this weekend, but a picture emerged after the game showing that it was more than just your bog-standard header.

Indeed, Mane put his body on the line to score the late goal for his team as he was kicked in the face just moments after connecting with the ball.

While we’re sure that the kick was rather painful, Mane wouldn’t have minded as the three points will be worth so much more to him.

This is exactly the type of thing that a team needs if they’re going to become champions of England, and with the Reds five points clear at the top of the table, they’re in a good place to go on and win their first Premier League title.

Here’s what the Anfield faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Arsenal fans don’t want Mourinho to succeed Emery

Arsenal fans on Twitter have been discussing the prospect of Jose Mourinho becoming their next manager.

It’s no secret that a portion of the Gunners’ fanbase want to see Unai Emery sacked from his current role, but would they accept Mourinho, 56, as his replacement?

One fan asked on Twitter whether or not the supporters would like to see the former Chelsea boss appointed, and unsurprisingly, the answer was an overwhelming no.

You can’t blame them one bit for having this view. Mourinho was the bane of many Arsenal fans’ existence during his time at Stamford Bridge, and he has previously disrespected Arsene Wenger by calling him a ‘voyeur’ and a ‘specialist in failure’.

Whether or not Mourinho would be a success at the Emirates is inconsequential to a number of these fans as some stated that his disrespect towards Wenger has put him permanently in their bad books.

Barcelona fans react to Goal’s Team of the Decade on Twitter

With the 2010s slowly coming to an end, Goal decided to compile the strongest XI of the last decade and they posted it recently on their site.Naturally, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are leading the way up front but those two just might be the only two players that have not really been debated hotly by readers.Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

And naturally, with only Messi, Sergio Busquets and the former Blaugrana player Dani Alves making the list of Barcelona players in the lineup, many of their fans were clearly unhappy with it.

It seemed to bug them that the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol were nowhere to be seen and many of them expressed their emotions on Twitter, where the lineup was labelled comical and the whole team a joke.

It’s safe to say many of the fans were simply not in agreement with Goal’s choices.

You can see some of their reactions down in the tweets below:

Arsenal fans blown away by William Saliba display

Arsenal fans were blown away by William Saliba’s commanding performance for Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 over the weekend.

The defender, who was signed by the Gunners in a £27m deal in the summer, only to be loaned back to the French club, has made two starts in the French top-flight thus far this season.

His second came on Sunday, as Saint-Etienne beat Bordeaux 1-0 thanks to a 92nd-minute goal from Denis Bouanga.

Per WhoScored, the 18-year-old, who was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur prior to agreeing a deal to join the Gunners, had 50 touches of the ball throughout the game, winning three aerial duels and one tackle, while also making three interceptions and two clearances.

Arsenal fans were impressed with his display and a number of fans are now counting down the time towards his return to north London at the end of the season.

Manchester United fans are livid after new reports suggest no January transfers

Manchester United are currently sat 12th in the Premier League table and might be ruing letting so many players leave in the summer. Reports from the Manchester Evening News have suggested that the club look set for a ‘difficult’ winter window and fans are furious.

Allowing the likes of Romelu Lukaku, who scored an impressive 42 goals in 96 appearances, to leave has led to extreme struggles for the club in front of goal. Since the Belgian departed, Marcus Rashford has led the line and has scored just one Premier League goal from open play and continuously put in shocking performances, such as his 2/10-rated dismal showing against Newcastle United.

In the centre of the pitch, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to bring in new faces after allowing Marouane Fellaini to move to China and did not find a replacement for Ander Herrera when he moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

Defensively, United have become more sound than last season, however, with a +1 goal difference so far, compared to the -1 they had by this point last year, partly thanks to the additions of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The reports do suggest United are in for another slow transfer window, and should this be the case, Solskjaer could be in further trouble.
