Fulham are stuck with Tony Khan, whether the fans like it or not

In football, some stories boil under the surface for years before erupting into the mainstream press. At Fulham, Tony Khan has been something of a ticking timebomb for a number of years, with the Whites’ Director of Football having all the characteristics you’d want from a tabloid football villain. He’s outspoken, he’s arrogant and if we’re being brutally honest, he’s an easy target, being supremely underqualified for his role at Fulham and the privileged son of a billionaire who has benefitted from an obscene amount of nepotism. This week we’ve seen things boil over, a number of papers reported on Scott Parker’s scathing comments on him, fans on Twitter have called for his resignation, and Jamie Carragher labelled him a “clown” live on Sky Sports (via The Sun). However, despite so many supporters calling for him to resign, and the American quite simply making a mess of the club’s last two Premier League campaigns, he’s still in a job, and he will be for the foreseeable future.

The reality is that Khan shouldn’t hold such a position, he has no fewer than four jobs listed in his Twitter bio, and if he’s juggling the running of a wrestling promotion, an NFL team and an analytics company all while trying to be a competent Director of Football, he’s going to struggle.

There quite simply aren’t enough hours in a week to do each of those roles justice, and over the past few months, it seems as though Fulham have been losing the battle for his attention.

The fact of the matter is that he is basically the de-facto owner of the club, with actual chairman Shahid Khan rarely getting involved these days,Âand if he is going to be ousted from his role, he’s going to have to sack himself, and that doesn’t seem at all likely.

In all of his wisdom, Khan told a fan to ‘go to hell’ last year when he was told to leave the club, while also making it clear that he won’t be leaving, claiming that he plans to die at the club, and while that isn’t the best way to handle your PR, it is also a sign of just how stubborn he is.

Khan won’t give this job up anytime soon, he’s the one who decides on these matters and it certainly doesn’t look like he’s going to follow Glenn Tamplin’s example and sack himself anytime soon.

It’s hard for Fulham fans to not get involved in this, and the crusade to oust Khan from his role at the club is happening for a reason, but these vocal supporters are fighting a losing battle. Khan is here to stay, whether they like it or not.

Birmingham City: Fans react to Alexandre Pato transfer links

Many Birmingham City fans have reacted to a transfer report linking former AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato with a move to the club.

Reports from Italian press have claimed the former AC Milan forward is being considered as a free transfer for the Blues. The Brazil international has been without a club since leaving Sao Paulo midway through August after a short spell.

Aged 31, the former Milan predator has bags of experience, having played for a number of clubs, including Premier League side Chelsea and Villarreal in La Liga. His time in English football at Stamford Bridge saw make just two appearances, finding the net once for the Londoners.

Birmingham sit 17th in the Championship as things stand and have struggled to score, finding the back of the net just three times in the opening seven fixtures.

Leicester: Foxes eye a swoop for Burnley’s Dwight McNeil

Leicester are looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season and could be set to raid their Premier League rivals Burnley.

Sky Sports have reported that the Foxes are interested in a summer swoop for Clarets winger Dwight McNeil. The 20-year-old has attracted a lot of attention in this window and Leicester will face competition from the likes of Wolves, AC Milan and Juventus.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have secured Europa League football after an impressive run in the league last season. However, the Foxes ran out of steam towards the end of the campaign to drop out of the Champions League positions during the final couple of weeks and the Irishman is eager to bring in some new attacking personnel to boost their chances of another title race.

McNeil was a strong influence at Burnley last term, featuring in every Premier League game and notching two goals and six assists. The England youth international finished level with Ashley Westwood with the highest assists tally for the Clarets (via BBC Sport).

Sky Sports have acknowledged that, following his six-assist season, the 20-year-old has become the youngest player since Raheem Sterling to achieve 10 assists in England’s top flight.

Leicester are looking for a left-footed talisman to add to their attack and support Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy up front. McNeil fits the description and would challenge Harvey Barnes, who is the only left-footed attacker currently on the Foxes’ roster.

Despite the 22-year-old having an impressive Premier League run with six goals and eight assists, Barnes only started in 24 of the 36 appearances that he made. On one occasion, he was reduced to a seven-minute cameo against West Ham back in December (via Transfermarkt).

It seems as though Rodgers may not fully trust Barnes to become an ever-present figure in this Leicester side. The manager’s interest in McNeil could potentially put the Englishman’s place in the team at risk with a younger player in the same position on the radar.

Whilst an official transfer fee is yet to be revealed, McNeil’s current Transfermarkt value is £22.5m, but Burnley may demand more given his young age.

Spurs fans discuss their interest in Marash Kumbulla

Having conceded 40 goals in the Premier League this season – the joint-most of anyone in the top ten – it’s no surprise to hear Tottenham being interested in making some defensive reinforcements this summer.

The latest player to be linked with a switch to north London? Hellas Verona’s Marash Kumbulla.

According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Spurs have earmarked the centre-back as a potential option to replace Belgium international Jan Vertonghen, who reports claim is set to leave on a free transfer when his contract comes to an end.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The report adds that Spurs could face intense competition from Premier League rivals Everton, and Serie A giants Inter.

After hearing about the links to the 20-year-old, Spurs fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on their rumoured transfer target.

One Spurs fan in particular however, raised some concerns about potentially signing Kumbulla, wondering whether he could be another Vlad Chiriches.

At just 20-years-old, Kumbulla could well be the future of Spurs’ defence.

If Vertonghen does indeed leave north London this summer, then going after someone who is considerably younger may be the way to go, particularly with the financial impact of the current situation set to take effect for the next couple of seasons at least.

Kumbulla may be the answer for Spurs.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans react to this PL star’s admission.

O gol destruiu a vantagem do Botafogo.

Southampton’s capture of Che Adams is now looking like a waste of money

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Back in the summer, Southampton’s capture of Che Adams looked like an exciting swoop.

The Englishman had just netted 22 Championship goals for Birmingham – attracting the interest of Arsenal and Manchester United as a result – but it was Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side who managed to get Adams to put pen to paper on a contract at St Mary’s.

Just 23 years of age, English and seemingly carrying bags of potential, it looked like an excellent deal at £15m – you only need to look at Leicester’s signing of James Maddison from the Championship to see the value in poaching blossoming English talent.

However, Adams’ brief time on the south coast has not quite gone to plan, and it is looking as if Southampton may have wasted their money on the striker for one reason.

The blistering form of Danny Ings.

Aside from the fact that the 5 foot 9 forward is yet to open his account for Southampton, despite making 13 appearances across both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, it is the form of the former Liverpool man Ings that is making the £15m spent on Adams look foolish.

Ings has netted an impressive nine Premier League goals this term, placing him as the division’s joint-fifth scorer alongside Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Sadio Mane.

Of course, the more firepower the better in theory but it is at the back where the £15m on Adams should’ve been invested instead.

Southampton have conceded a Premier League-high 35 goals in just 16 games this season, with the likes of Cedric Soares and Jack Stephens weak links, while Hasenhuttl has also alternated between Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy in goal.

If reports that club owner Gao Jisheng will have a tight stranglehold on the purse-strings this winter are true, that only makes the significant amount of cash spent on Adams look even more misplaced – Ings is putting the summer deal to shame with his goals.

In other news, Southampton are deluded with their outlook on this particular player of theirs…

Rangers: Fans getting very excited about Nathan Young-Coombes after impressing in UEFA Youth League

Two goals from Nathan Young-Coombes fired Graeme Murty’s young charges to victory in Bratislava, with the 16-year-old scoring either side of half-time after the home side had taken the lead. [via The Scottish Sun]

The teenage forward had also scored in the first leg against Slovan Bratislava three weeks ago, as well as netting what proved to be a vital goal in the previous round against Young Boys when Rangers advanced only on away goals (as per rangers.co.uk).

It isn’t just in the UEFA Youth League that the youngster has been on the goal trail, either – he found the net in the Light Blues’ 2-0 win over Wrexham in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup recently, citing a pre-game talk with ex-Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands as beneficial in helping him to get into goal-scoring positions. Everton fans weren’t happy at half-time against Tottenham

Everton fans on Twitter made their feelings very clear after watching the first half of their game against Tottenham.

You’ve got to say that the first 45 minutes at Goodison Park were extremely dull, but fortunately, the game picked up a little bit in the second half.

Watch Everton Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

You know a game is boring when the BBC say there is not much to report at half-time, and the reaction from the fans at the interval tells you all you need to know.

It’s bad enough that the Toffees are finding it hard to pick up any points, but it’s even worse when the football on show is so uninspiring.

Luckily, the game ignited in the second half with two goals and a grandstand finish that saw the Toffees pushing the London club to the limit.

It certainly seems as if these fans spoke too soon when calling the game boring, but after that first-half performance, you can hardly blame them.
