Tottenham Hotspur fans react on Twitter as club announces cashless new stadium policy

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting on Twitter this week after the club announced that their new stadium will be completely cashless.

Supporters won’t be able to use cash within the New White Hart Lane or in its surrounding campus, only major contactless credit and debit cards, mobile and wearable payment, Gift Cards, Stadium Access Cards and the Tottenham Hotspur Prepaid Card, which is coming soon.

The team cite their three main reasons for the bizarre move as increased speed, more payment options and improved hygiene within the stadium concourse.

The Lilywhites’ fan base has been split by the news and doesn’t know how to react, with some members expressing their pure anger at the decision by claiming “not everyone has these facilities” and “this isn’t helpful.”

Check out Playmaker FC’s Tom Skinner’s unfiltered take on Wayne Rooney’s England legacy in the video below…

Meanwhile, others have seen the lighter side by suggesting that the new stadium won’t be the only thing without cash in it, those supporters comically referring to Daniel Levy’s transfer budget which has also appeared penniless in recent times.

Below is a selection of the best Twitter reactions from Lilywhites to the odd announcement…

Forest legend Burns says club have advantage over rivals Derby

[ad_pod ]

Nottingham Forest legend Kenny Burns has written in his Nottingham Post column that the club have one key advantage over Derby County ahead of their East Midlands derby next week.

Burns, who played for the club between 1977 and 1981, won the European Cup twice at the club, as well as the First Division league title, the European Super Cup and two League Cups.

What’s the word?

Forest face their arch-rivals on Monday, in what will be Martin O’Neill’s first derby as manager.

The clubs are currently seventh and eighth in the Championship, respectively, but Derby have two games in hand on Forest.

As a result, County face Millwall at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday night, while Forest will not be in action this week.

And Burns believes that O’Neill’s men subsequently have the advantage over their bitter rivals, writing in the Nottingham Post: “It’s all about what Forest do on Monday; forget about them. There will be 11 battles going on all over the pitch, and how many we win will make the difference.

“Derby got hammered by Brighton in the FA Cup at the weekend, and they’ve got a game on Tuesday night, whereas we should be well rested after a week without playing.”

Indeed, Burns believes that Derby do not have the bottle to gain promotion and thinks Forest can win on Monday.

He added: “Overall, you have to say Frank Lampard has done well there,” he added. “But they will still choke when it comes to trying to get promotion. How many times have they been there or thereabouts and not gone up?

“Forest have got a good chance to put a dent in Derby’s chances of finishing in the top six – as well as help their own – if they can get the win.

“Derby have got some good players, like Harry Wilson, Mason Mount, Tom Lawrence… but they haven’t got a clue how to use them.

“We can beat them, no question about that, but we’ll have to wait and see how we do on the day.”

Rivals’ questionable form

Forest have not lost in their last three outings but they have drawn two of those, against West Bromwich Albion and Preston North End.

The latter was a dour goalless game, while Derby lost to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup, drew with Ipswich Town and beat Hull City in their previous three games.

The pair, then, have not exactly been setting the world alight in the Championship and this is a key fixture as each team looks to climb the table.

Derby can build up some momentum by beating Millwall in midweek but Burns is right to claim that they may be tired when the one that the locals have all been waiting for comes around.

Form, it is said, goes out the window in these games and, often, so does fatigue, but both have been rudderless recently – this clash offers the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

Journalist pours cold water on Leon King chances

The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell has poured cold water on Leon King’s chances of first-team action anytime soon.

The highly-rated prospect – who was wanted by Tottenham, Manchester City and Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig – recently signed a professional contract to end any worries over him leaving Ibrox in similar fashion to Billy Gilmour, who rejected a deal before Chelsea signed him for £500k.

Given Steven Gerrard’s issues at centre-back recently – Connor Goldson has been error-prone, while Nikola Katic is also unconvincing at times as Campbell has already explained – some may potentially have felt that there could be a first-team chance in the offing for King, who is just 16 years of age.

Sporting Director Ross Wilson lauded the youngster after he put pen to paper on a new deal, which fended off interest from the aforementioned clubs.

“Leon has been a priority for us and we are excited about his potential. He has been demonstrating that potential both for Rangers and Scotland and we are excited about his future. As a Rangers fan he has a huge desire to develop his career at Rangers and is impressing the staff on a daily basis with his application and attitude.”

However, when a fan suggested that he should be thrown into the team on Twitter, The Athletic’s Rangers correspondent poured cold water on the teenager’s chances of getting any action under Gerrard anytime soon.

You can see what Campbell tweeted in full below:

Florian Lejeune the key defensive figure for Newcastle at the Molineux

Newcastle United are going to have to be at their very best later this evening if they were to have any sort of say on proceedings when they square off with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium.

The high-flying Wolves have been in devastating form in recent matches and have been clinical in front of goal, which could be a big ask from Rafa Benitez’s men to handle if they were to get anything from the encounter.

While Wolves put Everton to the sword at Goodison Park last weekend with an impressive 3-1 victory, Newcastle pushed Tottenham Hotspur all the way at Wembley, mainly down to a good defensive display by the likes of Florian Lejeune and midfielder Isaac Hayden.

Despite eventually going down to Spurs through an 83rd-minute strike from Son Heung-min, the Magpies put in a solid shift to keep Mauricio Pochettino’s men out for the majority of the match.

And, they will need to make use of the same type of defensive approach heading into Monday’s clash with Wolves, who will pose a real attacking threat.

The 27-year-old Lejeune has brought some much-needed guile to the Newcastle defence since returning from injury at the beginning of January. With him in the side, the Frenchman is a wonderful foil for the likes of Jamal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez.

He has also been getting better with every match that he’s played and his presence has certainly lifted the team in terms of setting up an effective defensive structure.

Since his return to the first-team, Newcastle have looked much more organised and given the fact that they’ve played teams such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham in that time, Benitez will have reason to be positive heading into the match with Wolves.

Newcastle, though, should try to keep it tight in the midfield and not allow players like Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho too much time on the ball. That, in turn, should allow Lejuene to have a better choice of passing lanes when the away side look to spring a counter.

At the back, Lejeune should be in the faces of Jota and Raul Jimenez and not give them any space to work with.

The centre-back did that brilliantly in the match against City, while his physicality proved to be a problem for Lucas Moura last weekend.

If the Frenchman makes an early mark on the match then Newcastle could be in a good position to get a result out of the encounter.

Revealed: 81% of Leeds fans want Bielsa to give Grot another chance

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been discussing the future of Jay-Roy Grot, after the young Dutchman received his first international call-up.

Grot was called up to the Netherlands Under-21 side last week, as the towering youngster has impressed during his loan spell in the Eredivisie.

After scoring just one goal in his first season at Leeds, a goal which ultimately proved pointless in a defeat against Sheffield Wednesday, the 20 year-old is re-finding his confidence on loan with VVV Venlo.

He has scored twice and added one assist so far this season, and there is certainly still a feeling that he has a lot more to offer.

The youngster never really got a chance to impress under Paul Heckingbottom, and there’s no question he has more potential than the calamitous Caleb Ekuban.

Marcelo Bielsa has transformed several of last season’s scapegoats since arriving at Elland Road, and a whopping 81 per cent of fans think he can do the same for Grot.

Mateusz Klich spent last season on loan in the Eredivisie before returning to Leeds this summer in the form of his life, and the poll results down below suggest fans think Grot can do the same…

Revealed: Majority of Newcastle United fans think club will regret loaning out Gayle

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez had a frustrating transfer window as he publicly admitted that he was in the dark over funds for new players.

In the end, the Magpies strengthened their attack with the arrival of Salomon Rondon from West Bromwich Albion.

The Venezuelan international joined on a season-long loan, but at the same time, Dwight Gayle moved in the other direction.

The striker struggled to find the back of the net last season, but he is already off the mark for the Baggies.

The 28-year-old was one of the scorers in a 7-1 thumping over Queens Park Rangers over a week ago.

As for Newcastle, Benitez’s outfit have scored just twice in three Premier League fixtures.

Joselu netted against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, but the club are yet to pick up a win in the top flight.

Last season, Gayle managed just six top-flight goals, but in the Championship campaign prior to Newcastle’s return, the forward netted 23 times.

We asked you if the Magpies will regret letting the forward leave, and the majority of Newcastle fans think that they will.

West Ham United’s Halloween tweet backfires

Most football clubs’ social media teams like to make the most of an event, and many came up with Halloween-themed tweets on October 31.

West Ham United decided to come up with new ‘spooky’ names for a best XI, with ‘Witcharito’ and ‘Marlon Scarewood’ leading the line up front.

The club hoped that the fans would interact by coming up with their own versions, but rather than play along, the supporters took a different approach…

The negative mood among the fans comes from an inconsistent spell on the pitch from the players.

The East London outfit have won just two of their 10 Premier League games, drawing three and losing the other five.

At the weekend, Slaven Bilic’s side squandered a two-goal lead to eventually settle for a 2-2 draw with bottom-placed Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Pressure is growing on the manager and players, particularly as the club reside just one point above the relegation zone.
