Vernon Philander will undergo a scan on Monday to determine the severity of the injury to his left hamstring. He bowled just four overs and was off the field for most of India’s innings, but returned to bat later in the game. South Africa will not be able to take a call on his availability for their next match against West Indies, in five days’ time, until the outcome of his medical is known.Philander delivered just one spell at the start of the Indian innings, without taking a wicket, and left the field shortly afterwards. He returned after the first drinks break, but only briefly, and was off the field for the bulk of the rest of the innings. That meant South Africa were without one of their four frontline bowlers for 42 overs and needed JP Duminy to bowl seven overs – more than he may otherwise have done.This is the second injury concern a South African strike bowler has suffered within as many matches. Dale Steyn complained of a blocked nose and sore throat on the night of South Africa’s opener against Zimbabwe and the resulting sinus kept him out of South Africa’s first training session in Melbourne on Wednesday. He returned to training for the sessions on Thursday and Friday, but Philander struggled. Philander received treatment for a stiff hamstring on Friday but was passed fit for the game.

A partida “esfriou” depois desse período, seja pela natural impossibilidade de manter a alta rotação do princípio como também a dificuldade em superar as defesas adversárias mediante a sucessão de erros. Lances, aliás, que retratam bem a situação dos dois times na tabela de classificação.

Aos 39, Alan Mineiro conseguiu sair da mesmice ao arriscar um chute de fora da área que deu trabalho para Matheus Albino e deu esperança de que a segunda etapa poderia ser mais criativa.

Andrew Strauss has confirmed he would be interested in succeeding Paul Downton in the role of director of England cricket.Strauss, the former England captain, admitted he found the “allure” of the job “undeniable” but suggested he would require more information before he could seriously consider it.The ECB sacked Downton last week after just over a year in the job. Any chance of a Sussex fight back looked unlikely with a No.11 and a debutant at the crease. But the pair put on 164 runs for the final wicket and surpassed a 107-year record for the best tenth-wicket partnership for Sussex.Ten months ago Robinson’s contract with Yorkshire was terminated due to “a number of unprofessional actions”, involving poor timekeeping and less than perfect attendance at training sessions. Since then, in an attempt to recalibrate his career, the 21-year-old has played second XI cricket for Hampshire and Essex before signing for Sussex on a short-term deal and coming under the supervision of coach Mark Robinson.”A couple of weeks ago I came to a training session and then got asked to play a two’s game down at Radlett against Middlesex, scored a hundred in that and bowled quite well.” said Robinson. “In the middle of last week Robbo mentioned that I might be playing Sunday, so I prepared myself for it and got up for it and now we’re here today.”If it wasn’t for Tymal Mills’ back injury, he wouldn’t have even made the trip to Durham, let alone play. When I lie down on my bed later, I might take it in a bit more.”It might also take Durham’s bowlers and their coach a bit more time to recollect what happened on a day that saw more than 400 runs being scored despite the pitch offering something for the seamers.Despite losing Chris Nash in the first over, Ed Joyce and Matt Machan looked set score big before being removed in the space of five balls just before lunch. INÍCIO ARRASADOR DO FLAMENGO

O Flamengo se impôs diante dos 50 mil torcedores na Arena do Grêmio e teve amplo domínio. O time de Jorge Jesus terminou a primeira etapa com 65% de posse de bola, trocou 153 passes a mais do que o rival e criou chances claras. Duas foram convertidas, mas anuladas após o uso do VAR – veja mais abaixo.

A estratégia passou por “forçar” os ataques pela direita rival, onde atuaram os reservas Rafael Galhardo e David Braz por conta das ausências de Leonardo e Pedro Geromel. Foi por ali que o Fla levou mais perigo. Mesmo na etapa final, quando o Grêmio melhorou, o Rubro-Negro continuou atuando em bom nível.

A ATUAÇÃO DO VAR

A atuação do árbitro Nestor Pitana (ARG) e do árbitro de vídeoMauro Vigliano (ARG) foram determinantes para o resultado final e andamento da partida na Arena. Ao fim do jogo, o Flamengo teve três gols anulados. Dois seriam do atacante Gabigol, mas foram marcadas posições de impedimento do camisa 9.

O outro foi em finalização de Everton Ribeiro, mas a anulação do lance, outra vez envolveu Gabigol. O jogador do Flamengo empurrou Kannemann com as duas mãos na origem do lance e a bola foi tocada em sua direção. O goleiro Paulo Victor cortou o cruzamento, e Everton Ribeiro completou para o gol.

Nestor Pitana ainda foi à cabine do VAR rever uma falta de Michel em Gerson. Após a revisão, o árbitro argentino deu o cartão amarelo ao volante gremista.

BRUNO HENRIQUE DECISIVO!

Depois de muito tentar, o Flamengo conseguiu abrir o placar na Arena do Grêmio. Assim como foi na fase anterior, quando marcou dois gols sobre o Internacional, Bruno Henrique foi decisivo. Apareceu nas costas de Rafael Galhardo para completar cruzamento preciso de Arrascaeta, do lado direito.

Naquele momento, o Grêmio havia equilibrado a partida e, com Everton e Matheus Henrique, finalizado contra a meta de Diego Alves, que fez uma grande defesa. Até então, o camisa 1 do Flamengo não havia trabalhado.

PEPÊ: O NOME DA ESPERANÇA

A melhora do Grêmio na etapa final passou por uma mudança de postura, mas foi após as alterações feitas por Renato Gaúcho que o Tricolor Gaúcho chegou ao empate. Pepê foi quem apareceu na área para completar a jogada feita por Luan e Everton, os jogadores mais criativos que puxaram contra-ataque já nos últimos minutos. As entradas do Maicon e André também foram positivas.

DECISÃO NO MARACANÃ!

O Maracanã será o palco e o dia 23 de outubro será a data da partida decisiva entre Grêmio e Flamengo, que lutam por uma vaga na decisão da Libertadores. Do outro lado da chave estão River Plate e Boca Juniors. O primeiro venceu o jogo de ida, no Monumental de Nuñez, por 2 a 0 e tem a vantagem no duelo.

Com o empate em 1 a 1 no Sul, o Flamengo tem a vantagem do empate por 0 a 0. A repetição do resultado no Rio levará a decisão para os pênaltis, enquanto qualquer igualdade a partir de 2 a 2 levará o Grêmio à decisão única da Copa.

Chennai Super Kings entered their sixth IPL final in eight attempts, withstanding and overcoming Royal Challengers’ fightback on a slow pitch. Super Kings seemed to have the game in control from the moment Ashish Nehra took out Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the fifth over. But Royal Challengers scrapped their way through to set a fighting target of 140. Their bowlers kept the Super Kings top order quiet in the first half of the chase, and the wickets came in the second. MS Dhoni hung in but fell after levelling the scores. R Ashwin nudged a single off the penultimate ball to seal the win.Both captains had their wish fulfilled at the toss. Dew in mind, Dhoni wanted to chase. Knockout pressure and a dry pitch in mind, Kohli wanted runs on the board.With R Ashwin turning and bouncing the ball right away, the Royal Challengers openers targeted Nehra. Kohli pulled and lofted him for a four and a six after which Nehra asked Dhoni to stand up to the stumps. First ball of Nehra’s next over, Kohli stayed on the crease and tucked one straight to backward square leg.Two balls later, Chris Gayle survived a close leg-before shout. Three balls later, de Villiers was not so lucky, given leg-before with replays showing the ball to have pitched just outside leg stump.Ashwin removed Mandeep Singh soon, and Royal Challengers were limping at 36 for 3 in the eighth over.Gayle bided his time, waiting for Dhoni to bring on his two left-arm spinners so he could attack them. Dhoni brought them on only after Gayle fell in the 14th over for 41 off 43. He instead used the part-time offspin of Suresh Raina after Ashwin had bowled out.Dinesh Karthik and Gayle took Raina for a few runs, Gayle swinging a couple of big sixes over long-on, before Dhoni had his bowler change his line to get the left-hander. Raina went over the stumps, Gayle attempted the third six of the over and the bowler settled under the top-edge.Nehra made his third important intervention of the night when he had Karthik caught at long-on in the 17th over for 28. Sarfaraz Khan made an intelligent 31 off 21 to drag the total to 139 for 8, but as Kohli said later, Royal Challengers were 15-20 runs short.Dwayne Smith holed out early in the chase but Michael Hussey and Faf du Plessis had pushed the score to 61 by the tenth over. They had several close calls while running, and were put down once each, Hussey by Karthik and du Plessis by Gayle.Yuzvendra Chahal broke the stand in the tenth over, bowling du Plessis for 21. Raina’s poorest IPL season with the bat became worse when he charged out second ball and mishit Chahal to long-off.Playing only his third match of the season, Hussey steered the score past 100, relying on the pull and the drive. Two sixes off Chahal in the 16th over reined in the asking-rate, which had almost touched ten.Even after Hussey fell mishitting a pull off David Wiese in the 17th over, Super Kings found the big shot just when they needed it. Pawan Negi swung Harshal Patel over deep midwicket for six in the 18th, Dhoni stepped out to lift Mitchell Starc over mid-off for four in the 19th.Negi was run out in the same over, and Starc broke Dwayne Bravo’s off stump with his last ball, but only five were needed by then, and Royal Challengers were left to rue the rare collective failure of their big three batsmen.
