A crise envolvendo Jean no São Paulo estava “ensaiada” há quase um mês. Jean acreditava que seria titular contra o Red Bull porque Tiago Volpi falhara na derrota por 2 a 1 para o Corinthians, mas Mancini optou por mantê-lo. Essa atitude irritou ainda mais a diretoria, já que o time dependia dessa partida para ir às quartas de final do Paulistão. Mancini afirmou que a nota foi feita “para tumultuar”.

O São Paulo acha que Jean está perto do limite. O clube pagou R$ 6 milhões ao Bahia em janeiro de 2018 – o valor poderia chegar a R$ 10 milhões se atingisse um determinado número de partidas, algo que não aconteceu – e sempre o tratou como grande promessa para o futuro, mas já se irritou com ele diversas vezes. O goleiro teve uma discussão com Sidão no início do ano passado, foi expulso por provocar a torcida do Vitória quando ganhou uma sequência na reta final do Brasileirão e, ao voltar, recebeu novo cartão amarelo tolo contra a Chapecoense.

A diretoria espera que ele demonstre algum arrependimento e peça desculpas para considerar a possibilidade de devolvê-lo à rotina normal e colocá-lo à disposição da comissão técnica. Foi o que aconteceu com Gonzalo Carneiro, que se rebelou após não ser utilizado na Florida Cup e não apareceu para o jogo contra o Mirassol, na primeira rodada do Paulistão. South Africa’s franchise associations have urged Cricket South Africa to finalise quickly the itinerary for the upcoming home series against India with the BCCI, given that ticket sales are at stake. The Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB), which manages the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, is concerned it might not get to host the third Test, scheduled from January 15, but has decided to release season tickets despite the uncertainty.”All we know is what we have read (in the press),” Gauteng’s CEO Cassim Docrat said on Monday. “We could be one of the affected parties so we need to know what’s going to happen. We have (asked CSA), but (as of Sunday afternoon) we haven’t had a response from them yet.”We are going to go ahead with our season ticket sales based on the original itinerary. We can always change midstream if we need to – the longer we wait to put them on sale, the longer we keep people in limbo.”The Cape Cobras (Newlands) have already announced their ticket prices for the T20 (November 24), ODI (December 15), the New Year Test (starting January 2) and the Australia Test in March. Kwa Zulu Natal (Kingsmead, Durban), which is scheduled to host the Boxing Day Test, is also expected to release tickets soon. Johannesburg is also due to host a T20 and an ODI.Another franchise official, who did not want to be named, said they would “urge CSA to sort this out very quickly.” They also said it was discussed at last week’s CEOs conference and there were concerns over the status of the upcoming home series, which is bound to generate great interest. CSA, however, appear to be in denial that the schedule may be pruned and hence have remained mum on the issue as far as the franchises are concerned.The BCCI had already objected to the itinerary released in July, saying CSA had announced the schedule without the Indian board’s consent. It is understood that the BCCI is on the verge of giving CSA a revised schedule cutting down what was originally scheduled to be a three-Test, seven-ODI and two-T20 tour to two Tests, three ODIs and two T20s.However, BCCI president N Srinivasan said after the board’s working committee meeting on Sunday that the series is “definitely on.” A CSA official told ESPNcricinfo that the board had not been contacted by the BCCI on the schedule yet, and it would not respond till it receives “a formal proposal”.The status and length of the South Africa tour was in further doubt when on Sunday, the BCCI announced it would be inviting West Indies for at least two Tests in November. This would directly impact the South Africa schedule, as India were originally due to kickstart their tour on November 18.If CSA goes with the reduced series, the next bone of contention would be the Boxing Day Test. CSA had reintroduced the traditional Test while announcing the itinerary for India’s tour in July. However, the BCCI may demand that the Tests be played before limited-overs’ games, thus taking a Boxing Day Test out of equation.

Graeme Smith has successfully completed his first competitive outing since May, turning out for his franchise, Cobras, in a warm-up match against Indian side Madhya Pradesh at Newlands. Although the South African Test captain scored just two runs, he fielded in the slips and reported a clean bill of health after 21 weeks out of the game, which bodes well for the upcoming series against Pakistan.Earlier this year, Smith had to cut short his stint at Surrey due to the recurrence of an ankle problem and returned to Cape Town for surgery. Doctors discovered the condition was actually a fracture of the heel bone. Smith was operated on and had two pins inserted. He was on crutches for eight weeks before he could begin any physical activity.He has had a multi-disciplinary team of experts around him including a personal trainer, biokineticist and physiotherapist, and has made steady progress. Smith’s rehabilitation has included running on an anti-gravity treadmill and, more recently, regular cricket activity.”He has been working really hard with us in the nets,” Cobras coach Paul Adams told ESPNcricinfo. “And he has made good progress. He looks ready to go.” Smith, with the South African side, will depart for Dubai on Friday evening for a series of two Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20s against Pakistan.”As things stands now, Graeme is on track to play,” Mohammad Moosajee, the team manager who is also a medical doctor, said. “We are happy with the progress he has made so far. We have approached every week with a plan in place to get him to ready for the series. Ideally you always want more time, but he has worked well. We have been careful to monitor him at every step, so we don’t overload him.”The Tests series is South Africa’s first since they whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 at home in February and will be an important assessment of their grip on the No. 1 ranking because of the conditions. This will be South Africa’s first series in subcontinent conditions since earning the Test mace and they are expecting a time as tough as England, who were also No. 1 when they went to the UAE early 2012 but were blanked 0-3 by Pakistan.South Africa also have a proud record to uphold. They have not lost a Test series on the road in seven years, since they were beaten in Sri Lanka in 2006. Smith has led them throughout that time and has previously said he looks forward to extending that run in the future.His return to the crease will be welcome news for South Africa’s Test ambitions, and it will also bolster their ODI campaign after a forgettable time at both the Champions Trophy and in Sri Lanka. Smith was ruled out of both series with the same injury concern and South Africa did not fare well at all. They were booted out of the Champions Trophy at semi-final stage by England and crashed to a 4-1 defeat in Sri Lanka. Although he is not captain in that format, he will partner Hashim Amla at the top of the order to add stability and experience in what is still a developing unit.

Sehwag managed 15 off 18 deliveries and, with his dismissal, Delhi switched to a safety-first approach and played out for the draw. Gujarat took three points for the first-innings lead, while Delhi had to settle for one.Sehwag didn’t open the innings, but he was soon in the middle after Unmukt Chand was brilliantly run out from a direct hit by Jesal Karia at point in the first over of Delhi’s second innings. Then, in the first five balls Sehwag faced, he was dropped at midwicket, flicked one to the boundary, played and missed two and defended one, declaring his intentions of leading the chase.
