Arrested Rajasthan Royals cricketers Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila have been remanded to judicial custody till June 18. A Delhi court rejected their bail applications in the spot-fixing case after the Delhi Police decided to invoke the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused.MCOCA is a special law passed by the Maharashtra state government to tackle organised crime syndicates and terrorism and contains far stricter provisions relating to bail and admissibility of confessions compared to the Indian Penal Code. It allows police longer spells of custody of the accused.”It is extremely inappropriate for the Delhi police to invoke a draconian law like MCOCA,” Sreesanth’s lawyer Rebecca John said. “There seems to be a duplicity in the standards of both the Delhi & the Mumbai police – this is a Maharashtra law and we see that two big catches of the Mumbai police have been released on bail today. Others are walking free while the law has been invoked without any evidence against the players who are the most vulnerable.”Chavan had earlier been granted conditional bail till June 6 to get married in Mumbai. The three Royals cricketers were arrested on May 16, following which they were suspended by the BCCI pending an inquiry. The Royals franchise had suspended the contracts of all three players and also filed a police complaint against them. The players were allegedly promised money ranging from US$36,000 to 109,000 by bookies for each over of under-performance.Eleven bookies were also arrested along with the three players. One of the middlemen was identified as Jiju Janardhan, described by the police as Sreesanth’s close friend and team-mate at the Ernakulam club. Delhi Police had initially registered cases under the Indian Penal Code section 420 and 120B, which deal with fraud, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.

No Botafogo, a relação foi a seguinte: o lado direito, com Marcinho, Marcelo Benevenuto, Cícero e Erik concentrava a posse de bola nesse setor, até que a maioria dos defensores do Madureira se posicionava em bloco neste lado do campo e, assim, a bola era invertida para Gustavo Ferrareis, que recebeu livre pelo lado esquerdo em várias ocasiões.

A jogada envolvendo Ferrareis só não foi muito eficiente porque Jonathan, lateral do setor, não apareceu para dar suporte em muitas dessas ocasiões e, com isso, o camisa 8 encontrava dificuldade de passar pelo marcador do Madureira. Quando o defensor apareceu no campo de ataque, porém, a jogada foi efetiva e resultou no primeiro gol, justamente trabalho neste conceito: troca de passes no lado direito, inversão para Ferrareis na esquerda e passe que encontrou um atleta livre dentro da área.

As estatísticas do site “Footstats” exemplificam esse tipo de jogada: Marcelo Benevenuto e Marcinho, os dois jogadores do lado direito da defesa, trocaram, ao todo, 36 passes entre si. Além disso, o zagueiro trocou 24 passes com Cícero e o lateral trocou passes com Erik em 33 oportunidades.

Mesmo com uma atuação irregular e um placar suado, é possível enxergar que Zé Ricardo está trabalhando para enfrentar equipes que ficam no campo de defesa e atuam fechadas, o que mostra ser, até aqui, o principal calcanhar de aquiles do treinador no Botafogo.

Mickey Arthur has claimed he had no choice but to take legal action against Cricket Australia over the “totally unfair basis” for his sacking. Arthur has also said he was given a positive appraisal by Cricket Australia before the Ashes tour and that his reputation had suffered extensive damage after his axing, which would make it hard for him to find another job.Arthur has been in South Africa since his sacking and on Sunday arrived in Perth, where he delivered a statement to the media. Arthur reiterated that he was not responsible for last week’s leaking of details of his legal claim against Cricket Australia, in which a rift between Michael Clarke and Shane Watson was detailed. But he homed in on the CA chief executive James Sutherland’s admission that Arthur had been made a “scapegoat” as the key to his case.”James Sutherland himself said that, to an extent, I had been made, I quote, ‘a scapegoat’,” Arthur said. “I find that a totally unfair basis to end my career. The damage to my reputation and career has been immense, which means the chances of me getting a senior job are that much less. I was truly shocked and devastated by my dismissal. I had received a positive appraisal on all my key performance indicators just prior to departing for the Ashes tour.”I am told that David Warner’s conduct was ‘the last straw’ for the board. I received no hearing at all over that issue, and no one was doing more to improve discipline in the young Australian team than I was. After my dismissal, I received nothing in writing from Cricket Australia, no contact, and no payment at all, not even of my basic leave pay, until I was forced to bring in lawyers to assist in the process. I had tried on a number of occasions to make direct contact at a very senior level of Cricket Australia, for days there was just no response.”I thought, perhaps naively, that, under all the circumstances of my dismissal, that Cricket Australia would be willing to have sensible and good faith talks in private. Sadly that hasn’t happened. And here we are today. I never wanted to launch legal action but Cricket Australia simply left me no option.”Arthur said the handling of David Warner’s punch at Joe Root in a Birmingham bar during the Champions Trophy had been the catalyst for his axing, despite his attempts to instil discipline in the developing squad.Responding to Arthur, CA released the following statement: “Cricket Australia stands by its earlier statements on this matter and disputes a number of claims made by Mickey Arthur today. We will not be articulating these disputes publicly except to say that we are confident in our legal position, are comfortable with the level of support provided to Mickey and look forward to resolving this matter in an appropriate manner.”Arthur and CA will hold conciliation talks this week in Sydney.

Essex maintained their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition after crushing Durham by six wickets at Chelmsford. The hosts got home with 13.3 overs to spare, successfully chasing down Durham’s meagre 138 all out.Ryan ten Doeschate and Ravi Bopara made light of the task with a fourth-wicket partnership of 94 in 18 overs before the latter departed for 38. Ten Doeschate completed his side’s emphatic victory with an unbeaten 74 spanning 64 balls and featuring two sixes and eight fours.The visitors started the match at the head of Group B but struggled against a wonderful exhibition of pace bowling from Graham Napier. The Essex allrounder took 5 for 21, including a devastating spell of four wickets for one run in 2.2 overs at the start of the innings, as Durham sank to 9 for 4 after 4.2 overs.Mark Stoneman, Scott Borthwick and Paul Collingwood all failed to score as Napier ran amok. He removed Stoneman with his second delivery of the match and three balls later found an edge as Borthwick pushed forward to give James Foster one of his three catches. Former England batsman Collingwood failed to dig out a yorker while Phil Mustard reached just nine before he became another Napier casualty.Will Smith made a gallant effort to sustain the innings with a 73-ball half-century that included five boundaries, and he found useful support from Gareth Breese with the pair adding 55 in 11 overs for the seventh wicket. Breese was bowled by ten Doeschate and soon after Smith drove Tymal Mills to Bopara at mid-off as Durham’s innings ending as ignominiously as it had started with the loss of three wickets for one run.Bowled out in 34.1 overs, the visitors did have some early impetus when Essex started their reply as they captured three wickets for 30 runs in 11 overs. Hamish Rutherford edged Mark Wood to slip in the first over, Mark Pettini was pinned in front of his stumps by Chris Rushworth three overs later and Greg Smith played down the wrong line and was bowled by Wood.But Bopara and Ten Doeschate soon steadied matters as they composed their match-winning stand. When Bopara became a second victim for Rushworth, only 15 more runs were required and ten Doeschate duly completed the win to send Essex into Twenty20 Finals day on Saturday in good heart.

O jogo

Na empolgação da torcida, o Botafogo-PB chamou o jogo e atacou o Tubarão desde os primeiros minutos. O experiente Marcos Aurélio era o homem da partida e assustava o rival nas finalizações.

A medida que o tempo foi passando, o Londrina conseguiu diminuir o ímpeto do adversário e conseguiu sair em alguns lances.

Ainda na etapa inicial, o Londrina ficou com um a menos. O volante Romulo recebeu dois cartões amarelos e acabou expulso.

Na etapa final, quando o Bota ainda estudava uma maneira de pressionar o Londrina, o time visitante abriu o placar em contra-ataque. Marcelinho bateu no cantinho de Saulo, que nada pôde fazer.

Em desvantagem, o Botafogo-PB saiu para o ataque e pressionava o Tubarão. Marcos Aurélio e Clayton assustaram Alan e deixaram o grito de gol preso na garganta da torcida.

Aos 40 minutos, Felipe levou a melhor na dividida com Lula e bateu forte. Sem chances para Saulo que foi buscar mais uma bola dentro do gol.

England’s new-look one-day side, without five first-choice players, has come in for some harsh dissection in recent weeks. Does it devalue the game? Is the balance right? Are the selections consistent, or verging on stubborn? After victory in Cardiff to level the series, albeit just a single win in the bigger picture, Eoin Morgan was fully justified in his satisfaction at not just the win but the way it came about.The insistence on a deep batting order enabled England to overcome the shock of a third-over hat-trick and another middle-order wobble to win by three wickets, through a crucial stand by their Nos. 7 and 8 batsmen. Another specialist bowler could well have enabled them to keep Australia to fewer than 227, but the chase will allow Morgan and Ashley Giles, England’s coach, to feel some vindication.”It’s hugely satisfying, obviously, our backs were against the wall,” Morgan said. “The guys can take a lot of confidence from this game, particularly the young guys coming through.”While the performances of Stokes (with bat and ball), Boyd Rankin and Michael Carberry will help their fledgling England careers, it was no surprise to see Jos Buttler as the central figure in the closing overs. His reputation precedes him on the county circuit when it comes to such skilful finishes and now he is bringing that into the international arena, having been given a run as England’s limited-overs wicketkeeper by Giles.”We were always confident, as long as we were there at the end and took the game deep,” Buttler said. “The run rate wasn’t too out of hand, and I knew if I was there at the end we wouldn’t be very far away. I’ve played enough cricket now to know when it’s getting out of hand. It’s just ‘pick your bowlers, pick your moments’ and hope it comes off in your favour.”Buttler and Stokes, like every young England player these days, have come through the Lions set-up and this stand was another example of the value of that system, as they were familiar with each other – although Buttler acknowledged it wasn’t perfect.”We could have improved on our calling,” he said. “We had a few near run-outs. But I think we were quite calm. I’ve played quite a bit of cricket with Ben, growing up.”Buttler, however, did have his heart in his mouth when he called for a review having been given lbw to Shane Watson on 8. He was not convinced the system would save him, but after chatting to Ravi Bopara decided it was worth a chance, with the match so finely balanced. “I wasn’t sure … It was obviously a big moment, and luckily the review system saved me.”The DRS worked in England’s favour a short while later, too, when Stokes gloved a hook shot but was given not out. Australia had wasted their review on a speculative caught-behind appeal against Morgan.Michael Clarke just shrugged his shoulders – it is not the first time DRS has featured on this tour – and it was clear to him where Australia had fallen short. “We lost five for 18 at the end of our innings, so we needed to make some more runs,” he said. “When you only make that many runs, you know you have to bowl the opposition out. We knew we had to take 10 wickets to win the game, and unfortunately we didn’t do that.”

واستكمل: “درع الدوري الجديد يتم تصنيعه حاليًا في أعرق مصانع إنجلترا، وسيتم تسليمه لبطل الموسم المقبل”.

وأتم: “لا بد من الحفاظ على الأندية الجماهيرية، سيكون هناك شركات للكرة في الأندية الجماهيرية، وهذا لا يعني أننا سنبيع الأندية الجماهيرية، بالعكس سيتم إخراج مصاريف فريق الكرة من ميزانية النادي”.
