West Ham: Romano drops Declan Rice claim

It could well be Declan Rice’s last season at West Ham as interest in his signature ramps up heading into 2022…

What’s the word?

According to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, there is set to be a massive transfer tussle between three of the Premier League’s biggest clubs in a bid to win the race for the 22-year-old England international.

“It’s a big race for Declan Rice, because he is in the list for Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United,” he revealed to his ‘Here We Go’ podcast this week.

Whilst he is unlikely to depart the London Stadium in January, it seems likely that the Irons star will leave in the summer, with The Athletic echoing such thoughts.

They claim that the Hammers are aware of Rice’s ambitions to win trophies and play Champions League football, whilst he’s under contract until 2024.

Moyes nightmare

Moyes could be fighting a losing battle here, so it may soon become his worst nightmare in east London.

Rice was already performing at an exceptional level last season and at Euro 2020 but somehow, he’s elevated his game even more. It’s no wonder the three big dogs are pursuing him.

The 27-cap beast, who is currently valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, is once again proving to be a crucial cog in this Irons squad.

As per WhoScored, Rice is averaging a 7.31 rating (fourth-best), having provided two assists, whilst he tops the charts for interceptions per game (two) and passing accuracy (92.4%), despite managing a whopping 61.1 passes each outing.

After West Ham’s win over Everton at the weekend, Moyes waxed lyrical about his midfield talisman and vice-captain, re-iterating just how influential he is to their success.

“It would be very hard to say how good he was. He was excellent,” he told reporters (via football.london). “For me, he was head and shoulders above everybody on the pitch today, he passed it, took control, wanted the ball, received the ball and tried to create opportunities.”

Just a few days later, Sky Sports pundit and United legend Gary Neville added further fuel to the fire by urging him to leave the club [Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, 18/10].

“I think the development will be at some point, and West Ham fans won’t like me saying this, that he’ll somehow have to obviously transfer to a club that’s going to the Champions League, where he plays in midfield with high expectations, where he’s playing against teams that are dropping deep every week. I think he meets the demands on players to be good on the ball, to drive with the ball. I think he’s a good defender as well. He’s got a massive physique and he’s got good speed.”

On the above evidence, fans should probably be resigned to the fact that Rice isn’t going to stick around forever, no matter how big his love is for the club.

As we saw with Jack Grealish’s move to Manchester City this summer, some things are just too good to turn down and that scenario could well repeat itself with the West Ham star.

Moyes will be gutted to lose such an integral part of his squad, that’s for sure.

Buoyant after their win yesterday, Bangladesh Under-19 continued strongly to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match encounter. A quick fifty from Saikat Ali coupled with another superb bowling display from Sabbir Rahman saw them assert their supremacy yet again at the Shamsul Huda Stadium.Choosing to bat first, Bangladesh U-19 were lifted by Saikat’s confident strokeplay. His 76-ball innings comprised nine fours and three sixes, and the fourth-wicket stand of 50 with captain Mahmudul Hasan set a solid platform for the hosts. Chathura Peiris took three wickets to keep Bangladesh U-19 in check but Tasamul Haque (42) and Noor Hossain took the hosts past 250.Even as Sri Lanka U-19 lost wickets regularly, captain Dinesh Chandimal led from the front with a well-compiled half-century. Together with Kushal Janith Perera, they added 88 for the fourth wicket as the visitors looked to be well on course. But Sabbir had other plans, dismissing both batsmen, triggering off a panic that resulted the tail surrendering meekly by the 43rd over.

Gibbs-White could pose Lage a big problem

While things under the leadership of Bruno Lage have started to look on the up for Wolverhampton Wanderers in recent weeks, with results on the pitch having improved rather drastically, there is nevertheless one particular issue that could be starting to play on the 45-year-old manager’s mind.

This is the conundrum of Morgan Gibbs-White, with the attacking midfielder having been sent out on loan to Sheffield United this summer as a result of Wolves’ additions of both right-winger Francisco Trincao and centre-forward Hee-chan Hwang.

Indeed, speaking recently about the potential January activation of a recall clause in the 21-year-old’s temporary contract at Bramall Lane, Lage said: “When Hwang came, we took the decision to let Morgan go and play. We are very happy with him and what he is doing.”

It is easy to see why the Wolves boss is happy with Gibbs-White’s performances for the Blades, as, over his eight Championship appearances so far this season, the £6.3m-rated man has scored three goals, registered two assists and created three big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.6 shots and making 1.4 key passes per game.

These returns have seen the former England U21 international average a SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Slavisa Jokanovic’s fourth-best player in the second tier of English football.

However, with Lage himself admitting that the signing of Hwang has pushed Gibbs-White down the pecking order at Molineux, it is difficult to see where Gibbs-White fits into the 45-year-old’s plans. Wolves have the option of signing the South Korea international for around £13m next summer while holding a similar option to purchase Trincao from Barcelona at the end of the season.

This is a situation that certainly has the potential to cause the former Benfica manager a problem, as, with Wolves fans not appearing happy at the player who Chris Basham dubbed a “breath of fresh air” being bombed out of the club on loan this summer, the prospect of Lage selling Gibbs-White permanently is likely to be an even less popular decision.

van Jaarsveld lifts Kent from danger

A round-up from the latest County Championship matches

Cricinfo staff01-May-2009Division Two3rd dayKent’s captain, Martin van Jaarsveld, lifted his side clear of danger on the penultimate day at Chelmsford, cracking his second century in as many matches to secure a first-innings lead of 226 against Essex. Van Jaarsveld came to the crease with his side in some danger at 113 for 2, still trailing by 52 after being asked to follow on, but a third-wicket stand of 124 with James Tredwell (79) ensured against any further damage. Darren Stevens then set his side up for a draw by reaching the close on 74 not out in a total of 391 for 5. Danish Kaneria was the most successful of Essex’s bowlers with 2 for 109.4th dayJon Lewis and Steve Kirby shared three wickets apiece as Gloucestershire saw off a determined run-chase from Northamptonshire to win by 44 runs on the final day at Wantage Road. Set a daunting 371 for victory, Northants were handily placed overnight on 200 for 5, with Andrew Hall and David Willey unbeaten in a sixth-wicket stand of 98. That partnership was soon ended when Willey fell to Vikram Banerjee for 47, and though Hall fell nine runs short of his century when Alex Gidman pinned him lbw, Steven Crook ensured the chase went on by marshalling the tail with 55 from 82 balls. The end, however, came quickly, as Kirby and Lewis returned with the new ball, and extracted the last three wickets for four runs.England’s Under-19 batsman James Taylor guided Leicestershire to safety with the first first-class hundred of his fledgling career, as Middlesex were thwarted in their victory push at Southgate. After being asked to follow on midway through the third day, Leicestershire were handily placed on 177 for 2 when play resumed, and though Tim Murtagh gave them some early jitters with three wickets for nine runs, including Boeta Dippenaar for 93, Taylor didn’t let their position slide away in a determined 197 ball innings. He received stoic support from the tail, with Paul Nixon making a virtually strokeless 31 in almost three and a half hours, before Wayne White and Carl Crowe flung the bat with more abandon as the match petered out in the closing overs. After losing an entire day to rain, Glamorgan and Derbyshire managed just 5.3 overs on the final day at Cardiff as their match finished as a very soggy draw. In the time available, Robert Croft claimed Daniel Redfern for his third wicket of the innings, but it was all academic.Division One3rd dayNottinghamshire cemented their overnight advantage against Lancashire on a curtailed third day at Old Trafford, as they extended their first innings from 263 for 6 to 367 for 9 declared, a lead of 178. The mainstays of their day were the captain Chris Read, who was run out for 63, and Paul Franks, who made 51 from 86 balls in his first first-class outing of the season. Lancashire were left with a solitary over before an early, which was negotiated without alarm.Matt Prior responded to his omission from England’s Twenty20 squad with a bruising unbeaten century, as Sussex fought back after an early collapse against Hampshire at The Rose Bowl. After losing the second day to the weather, Hampshire declared after 5.5 overs on 350 for 8, whereupon Dominic Cork continued his penchant for early breakthroughs by claiming the wickets of Michael Yardy and Ed Joyce. Chris Nash fell to James Tomlinson for 33, and when Murray Goodwin was run out for 7, Sussex were staring down the barrel at 97 for 4. But Prior sprung to the rescue with his first century of the season, as he dominated a fifth-wicket stand of 74 with Andy Hodd, who made 25 before become Cork’s third wicket of the innings.4th dayFor a full report from the final day between Somerset and Durham at Taunton click here. For a full report from the final day between Yorkshire and Worcestershire at Headingley click here.

Antônio Carlos
Apareceu em uma jogada ofensiva que errou o chute, e na defesa teve atuação tranquila, já que o Atlético-PR não pressionou tanto após o gol.

Newcastle willing to pay Ramsey’s wages

An update has emerged regarding Newcastle’s interest in Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

What’s the talk?

According to Tuttosport, via Sport Witness, PIF are ready to splash out £11.8m (€14m) on wages per season for the Welsh international.

The report claims that they are willing to match his Juventus wages as they prepare an offer ahead of the January transfer window.

Fans will be buzzing

Newcastle fans will surely be buzzing with this news for multiple reasons. Firstly, it shows that the Saudi Arabian consortium are willing to spend big money in January to improve the squad in the short-term.

Instead of keeping the cash in the bank until the summer, PIF are prepared to invest in the team in the winter market to bolster the starting XI. Fans will surely be delighted to hear this as it could lead to an exciting transfer window in two months’ time.

The Magpies are struggling in the Premier League and January may not be the right time to invest in younger players with potential as they try to stave off a potential relegation battle. It could be a smart ploy to bring in a couple of experienced, proven players to help them avoid the drop before recruiting young talent in the summer ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Fans would also be buzzing as Ramsey has a track record of performing to a high level in the Premier League and could give them the boost they need to get over the line in the second half of the campaign.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown previously called him an ‘outstanding technician’ during the Welshman’s time with the Gunners, saying: “Playing in a deeper role, as he did under Arsene Wenger – I think that’s the best role for him. If you want Ozil and him in the same team. He’s so important to everything they do. It’s the energy – the box-to-box energy. He’s become an outstanding technician.”

Ramsey has played 262 matches in the Premier League to date, scoring 40 goals and setting up 51 for Arsenal from central midfield. This shows that he has the requisite experience to come in and steady the ship in the middle of the park for the Magpies, whilst also offering a threat in the final third, and that is why the Toon Army must be delighted by this update.
