Faz parte do jogo.

Saints fans react to Vestergaard news

Southampton fans have been reacting to the news that Jannik Vestergaard does not want to sign a new contract at the club but there have been no serious offers for his services.

The Saints will kick off their new season against Everton on Saturday at Goodison Park, and Ralph Hasenhuttl will be hoping to see a positive performance from his players. They finished in a disappointing 15th place in the Premier League table last term – the Austrian will therefore be looking for immediate improvement this time out.

£16.2m-valued Vestergaard (Transfermarkt) was away with Denmark on international duty at Euro 2020 and has not long since returned to the club from his post-tournament break. According to The Telegraph, he has no desire to extend his contract but the club have not yet received any offers for his services.

The news was shared on Twitter by @SaintsExtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the Gers supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Fizemos 12 treinos, tudo normal.

A estreia do Vasco no Campeonato Brasileiro acontece no próximo dia 14, diante do Palmeiras, fora de casa.

Bruce rules out Saint-Maximin exit

Steve Bruce has dropped an update on Allan Saint-Maximin’s future between now and the end of the window.

What’s the talk?

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has claimed that there is a “100%” chance of the club keeping hold of Allan Saint-Maximin between now and the end of the transfer window.

He told The Mirror:

“You can never say never but absolutely, 100%, I will say that we are keeping him.

“I said when I walked through the door two years ago, and he did too, that the supporters will enjoy watching him.

“Whether you’re a Newcastle fan or not he’s worth his admission fee alone, isn’t he? In terms of his trickery, pace and power, he’s such a natural footballer, the kid.”

This comes after Rafa Benitez was linked with a raid of his former club earlier this summer. Everton are reportedly interested in a deal for the French flyer, but Bruce is confident that he will be going nowhere.

Fans will be buzzing

Newcastle fans will surely be buzzing with this news as it means that they do not need to worry about Saint-Maximin leaving St. James’ Park anytime soon.

The Frenchman’s style of play lends itself to getting fans excited, with his direct dribbling approach superb to watch in full flow. Last season in the Premier League, he averaged an exceptional 3.8 dribbles per game and this shows that he has the technical quality to commit defenders and open up gaps by gliding past players.

Supporters thrive off the jolt of excitement a bursting run down the line provides and that is why Saint-Maximin is someone they enjoy watching. Speaking earlier this year, Bruce hailed the winger as a special talent, who can get fans off their seats. He told The Sun:

“He’s one of them that will get you off your seat, and how many have got that these days?

“He scored a goal in training the other day which was just remarkable. He does that, where we all just have to stand and applaud.

“You can see when he’s playing and injury-free then he’s a special, special talent which inevitably will draw interest.”

This highlights exactly why the fans will be delighted with Bruce’s comments. It appears as though Saint-Maximin will continue to impress the St James’ faithful beyond the end of the transfer window and, hopefully, he will be able to maintain his fitness and play as much of the campaign as possible to give him the best chance of improving his goal contribution numbers after a stop-start 2020/21 campaign.

Riaz does better, Sarfraz gets on the board

The plays of the day from the Pakistan-Sri Lanka game in Karachi

Sidharth Monga in Karachi29-Jun-2008
Wahab Riaz had a much calmer day in the office © AFP
Riaz continues from where he left
When Wahab Riaz last played for Pakistan, he bowled two beamers, and before being barred from bowling, had been taken for 86 runs by India. He had bowled 9.2 overs during the Kitply Cup in Dhaka, and continued the good work when he started today. After a first-over maiden by Sohail Tanvir, he started up with a gentle short ball outside the off stump, and Kumar Sangakkara quite liked it and gave it a receipt: “An amount of four runs received with gratitude…” To his credit, Riaz made a decent comeback after the 11-run first over to end up with figures of 1 for 52 in nine overs.Like Kamran, like Sarfraz?
Sarfraz Ahmed, brought in to replace Kamran Akmal, who two days ago was quite audaciously named the Asian wicketkeeper of the year for the Castrol awards, hasn’t had the greatest of comebacks to the Pakistan side. He failed to get on the board after fumbling a few takes in his first two Asia Cup matches, but he got his first dismissal of the tournament when he caught Chamara Silva off Tanvir. Why Malik shouldn’t open part II
Salman Butt got out for a duck while opening with Shoaib Malik in the first match of the Asia Cup. Today, he once again failed to score, making it the second consecutive time that’s happened. Although Butt managed 35 against India, he was bowled by Chaminda Vaas on the first ball of Pakistan’s chase.Where are the extras?
Sri Lanka have always been disciplined, but consider this: the first extras Pakistan secured in their innings came in the 33rd over. No over-stepping, no wides, no byes, no leg-byes, nothing hitting the helmet … nothing for 194 balls. Let’s leave it for the statistically inclined to decide if this is the best effort when it comes to extras. Can’t wait for Euro
When Ajantha Mendis bowled Misbah-ul-Haq in the 47th over, Ian Gould sent out a strong signal. With the Euro 2008 final to start soon after the end of this match, Gould wanted it to be known that the match be finished fast. When the fielding side gave him the ball, he started dribbling it like a football player.
