Não bastassem os seis jogos sem vencer, cinco só pela Série B, o Vasco ainda caiu provisoriamente para a segunda posição pela primeira vez na competição, com o triunfo do Atlético-GO no início da rodada. Por conta disso, a vitória neste sábado, contra o Oeste, às 16h30, em São Januário, se tornou imprescindível para não só acabar com o amargo jejum, mas também retomar a ponta.

– Jogando em casa, a gente não poder pensar em outra coisa que não seja vitória. A gente não pode pensar em outro resultado. E agora, se tornou mais emergencial – disse o técnico Jorginho.

Apesar da má fase do Vasco, o discurso na Colina é encarar a má fase com naturalidade. Na coletiva de ontem, Jorginho aparentou um semblante tranquilo e foi sereno nas respostas. Ele garantiu que o clima no vestiário é bom e disse que os jogadores estão preparados para lidar com o mau momento.

– A gente vem trabalhando constantemente nessa questão com os nossos atletas. De não deixar que esse momento de desconfiança, que os torcedores e as pessoas têm dúvidas, afete. A gente já passou por isso, até mais difícil. Nós conseguimos superar essa situação e vamos em busca nesse jogo da nossa recuperação – afirmou o treinador, destacando que espera o apoio da torcida para vencer em São Januário.

– O que nós estamos esperando é que o torcedor jogue junto. Eles já demostraram isso em momentos difíceis que já vivemos aqui. A gente sabe que nem sempre é assim, um ou outro não vai apoiar em uma situação como essa. Tudo vai depender que a gente entre com determinação, ligados desde o início do jogo para ter a torcida – pediu o técnico.

Two weeks ago it looked as though Roy Keane was set to be presented to the Celtic supporters as the Bhoys’ new manager.

However, after that move fell through, Eddie Howe has been at the height of Dermot Desmond’s agenda.

What’s the word?

The pendulum is swinging once again when it comes to uncovering the new manager of Celtic.

Howe had been the favourite over the last week but news emerged on Wednesday courtesy of his representatives that he wouldn’t be moving into a new job before the summer at the very earliest.

In a big twist to the tale, it was reported on the same day that the Hoops hierarchy have a new name they’d like to think that about; Lucien Favre.

Football Insider claim that Celtic are assessing the Swiss coach in case Howe rejects their offer.

Favre was reportedly interested in discussing the role with the Glaswegian side a few weeks ago but it wasn’t clear what their stance on the former Borussia Dortmund manager was.

Fresh information reveals they are indeed considering him, however.

Howe vs Favre

Howe’s managerial career has been a fairytale story so far. The 43-year-old took the Cherries from the brink of extinction in League Two to a team now full to the brim with Premier League television revenue.

His journey with the south-coast side is like something you’d see in a film, but it’s hard to ignore Favre’s exploits too.

Indeed, supporters should be drooling over the impact he could potentially have at Parkhead.

He may have been sacked from his role with Borussia Dortmund last December but his win rate is something to marvel at. During his stint in the Rhine, the 63-year-old won 61.82% of his matches.

That’s an eye-catching number for a manager who tasted defeat just 24 times in 110 games as manager.

Defensively well-organised, he also likes his teams to attack. Only Bayern Munich (100) scored more goals than Dortmund (84) in last season’s Bundesliga for instance.

As for Howe, the differences are night and day. He might be pragmatic on the training field but the fact of the matter is that he’s never recorded a win rate over the 50% mark.

He is, of course, still a young coach, but with Celtic going through a transition period the experience of Favre might be preferable.

Favre has also gone deep in continental competition, a further string to his bow that puts him above Howe on the pedestal.

With all that said, the twist that Favre is being assessed by the hierarchy should be music to the ears of supporters.

Allan Saint-Maximin inspired a stunning Newcastle United comeback on Saturday afternoon to hand a boost to Steve Bruce’s hopes of staying in the Premier League this season, but another name arguably stole the show at Turf Moor.

The Magpies were heading for a frustrating result until the Frenchman’s 57th-minute introduction as he came off the bench to score and assist two goals in quick succession.

He first found Jacob Murphy before a superb solo effort was rifled home, both within eight minutes of coming onto the pitch.

And whilst he deserves plenty of plaudits, Newcastle’s opening goalscorer deserves just as much, having made a considerable impact throughout the 90 minutes.

Indeed, Murphy was amongst Bruce’s highest-rated starters (7.4), as per SofaScore ratings and this was something echoed by ChronicleLive’s Lee Ryder, who claimed the wing-back bounced back from an indifferent opening half to form a brilliant partnership with Saint-Maximin.

The 26-year-old was one of the Magpies’ most influential players as he recorded 66 touches, a feat only bettered by Jonjo Shelvey – understandably as he’s supposed to dictate play from the engine room.

But that merely showed how Newcastle relied on Murphy down that right flank, he only got better when Bruce replaced the struggling forward duo of Joelinton and Dwight Gayle.

The 5 foot 9 dynamo also managed to provide two accurate crosses and pulled off one successful dribble but he too contributed defensively to great effect.

As per SofaScore, Murphy made two tackles, which was only bettered by one player on the pitch – Erik Pieters (six), who the Magpies star often went to battle with.

By comparison, central defensive duo Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez combined for the same number of tackles. Murphy also chipped in with one interception and one block too.

The £25k-per-week dynamo earned the glowing praise of Alan Shearer on Twitter as he couldn’t contain his excitement at the victory, so whilst Saint-Maximin will be the main name spoken about, you cannot ignore the industrious contribution of the former Norwich City graduate.

He’s still set to be out of contract in the summer, so the Magpies hierarchy will need to act on Bruce’s wishes sooner rather than later after that display.

Com o gogó afiado, a cantoria durou até a chegada da delegação na Avenida Silvio de Noronha. مانشستر يونايتد فتح تحقيقًا مع الشرطة الإنجليزية، للوصول إلى الحقائق وراء ما حدث، قبل أن يتخذ النادي قرارًا رسميًا بإيقاف اللاعب وابتعاده عن التدريبات.

Leicester City’s Champions League chances took a huge blow with a drab 3-1 defeat against West Ham on Sunday.

Two first-half goals from Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard put the Hammers in control before Jarod Bowen scored right after the restart. Kelechi Iheanacho pulled two goals back but it was not enough for a fantastic comeback.

We take a look at how the Foxes’ rated:

Starting XI

Kasper Schmeichel – 5/10: He could not do much about two out of the three goals but was caught in no-man’s land for Lingard’s second. His kicking was very wayward.

Timothy Castagne – 5/10: It was a difficult afternoon on the left for the former Atalanta man. He did not complete a single tackle for the visitors according to WhoScored in a poor defensive showing from his side.

Wesley Fofana – 4/10: An uncharasterically erratic performance from the Frenchman who dove in a little too often. The 20-year-old made it too easy for the second West Ham goal by allowing a ball to float over his head and was caught out of position for the third. Should have scored a late equaliser.

Jonny Evans – 5/10: Another who struggled quite considerably against a rampant West Ham. He wasn’t at fault for any of the goals but struggled to really get a hold of Jarod Bowen throughout the afternoon.

Daniel Amartey – 3/10: Very poor. The Ghanaian was hauled off at the break by Brendan Rodgers after a shaky performance in which he played numerous backwards passes short.

Ricardo Pereira – 6/10: Deployed at wing-back, the former Porto man really struggled to have an impact from a defensive standpoint but did play an important role in Leicester’s goal by robbing Arthur Masuaku. He did, however, contribute three key passes.

Wilfred Ndidi – 5/10: The midfielder was nowhere near his best, losing the midfield battle with Tomas Soucek and only contributing two tackles. He was somewhat fortunate to not have been sent off for two yellow cards.

Dennis Praet – 6/10: Playing in the absence of James Maddison and Ayoze Perez, the Belgian was middling upon his return but could not provide a single key pass and was substituted in the second half.

Youri Tielemans – 6/10: One of those to actually come out of the game with credit for Leicester. The Belgian contributed some eye-catching passes through the game, having more touches and completing more passes than anyone in the Leicester team.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 7/10: In the end, his two goals ended up being consolations but the finishes were clinical and strikes that continued his great recent form. However, his six unsuccessful touches took a lot of shine off of his performance.

Jamie Vardy – 5/10: It was another extremely quiet display from the Leicester frontman whose record now sits at just one goal in his last 14 Premier League matches. His solitary shot on target did nothing to trouble Fabianksi.

Substitutes

Luke Thomas – 6/10: Introduced as the first Leicester substitute, the youngster did not do any harm. Could not really do anything about any of the West Ham goals.

Marc Albrighton – 7/10: The winger produced another standard performance full of effort after replacing Praet. He provided 13 crosses in his time on the pitch, teeing up Iheanacho late on.
