Sky Sports’ Martin Tyler delivered a whole host of statistics for readers to unpick on Tuesday following another weekend of Premier League football.

After James Maddison scored yet another direct free-kick, his third of the season, Tyler revealed that the pulsating playmaker is closing in on a potential league record.

As it stands, the current record for most direct free-kicks scored in a single season belongs to David Beckham and Laurent Robert, who have both managed to score five set-piece goals during one campaign.

The former Manchester United superstar achieved that feat in the 2000/01 season, while the left-sided Newcastle technician matched it a season later.

The next David Beckham?

There are certainly parallels to be drawn between the respective dead-ball techniques of Maddison and Beckham.

Naturally, as a title-winning Red Devil, the former England international presumably had more opportunities to strike the ball from a set-piece situation than Maddison has had this season, and that could be what prevents Leicester’s creative hub from matching the record.

On the international stage, though, Maddison could eventually establish himself in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI and go on to intimidate opponents with his Beckham-esque free-kick style.

And, if he manages to equal the league record number of free-kicks scored in a single season by May, there is no doubt the England boss will be pondering over his inclusion at the UEFA Nations League Finals in June.

وقال شطة في تصريحات إذاعية عبر أثير راديو مصر: “لم يتم الإعلان عن تأجيل المباراة بشكل رسمي ولكن سوف تتأجل بنسبة كبيرة، لأن الإعلام المغربي أصبح قويا وبالتأكيد حدثت تدخلات كثيرة من قبل الرجاء وخاصة أن هناك فوزي لقجع رئيس الاتحاد المغربي وعلاقاته القوية في الكاف”.

وعن رأيه في حالة أعلان تأجيل المباراة قال: “كنت أتمنى عدم تأجيلها، وأن يتخذ الكاف قرار حاسم في هذا الأمر، خاصة أن حوريا الغيني واجه بيراميدز وهو به حالات إيجابية للفيروس كورونا”.

وأكمل: “مثلما ذكرت أن المباراة ستتأجل بنسبة كبيرة والذي ساعد علي هذا الأمر إعلان موقف الزمالك بترحيبه بالتأجيل”.

وأكمل: “مستاء مما يحدث من الكاف في الوقت الحالي حيث يواجه أزمات عديدة ، والأمر بات مُعقدا”.

أوضح: “أتمنى من الكاف آلا يؤجل لقاء الزمالك والرجاء، لابد أن يكون هناك قرارات حاسمة، الكاف يحتاج لإعادة مصداقيته”.

وعن مباراة الأهلي قال: “الكاف لا يستطيع تأجيل مباراة الأهلي والوداد”.

A transfer merry-go-round has left Arsenal in pole position to sign Samuel Umtiti, reports claim.

What’s the story?

According to reports in Spain, Arsenal are one of a number of teams chasing Umtiti, and Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu did not rule out a sale when speaking on the matter, as reported by Sport.

Now, a report from TuttoMercatoWeb claims Manchester United are hoping to sign Kostas Manolas from AS Roma, and that the Italians want Umtiti as his replacement.

Here’s the good news for Gunners fans though – the report claims Roma are already behind in the race to sign Umtiti as Arsenal are “definitely on pole” to sign the World Cup winner, as translated by Sport Witness.

Perfect signing

If the media’s enquiries into Roma’s interest in Umtiti were really met with ‘won’t happen, Arsenal are already in there’ then that is fantastic news for the red half of north London.

The Gunners are absolutely crying out for a left-sided centre back with true quality, and Umtiti has multiple domestic titles along with a World Cup winner’s medal under his belt already at just 25 years of age.

The Barcelona ace, who has lost his place to Clement Lenglet at times this season due to form and injuries, is incredibly athletic, gifted on the ball in typical Barcelona fashion and even reads the game superbly well for a relatively young centre half.

Umtiti is an immediate upgrade on any of the club’s current defensive options, and given their struggles to keep clean sheets this season could end up being their most important signing in years – sorry Mesut Ozil.

There is one bad omen in all this though – the last time Arsenal signed a World Cup winning centre back his name was Shkodran Mustafi.

Despite their current resounding success, Jurgen Klopp’s long-term goal will obviously be to make Liverpool’s future as exciting as possible.

Indeed, as a result, we’ve seen him give chances to youth over the years and while some are satisfied with their positions, others who’ve been ignored are anything but pleased.

Due to the lack of chances, some players want out and youngster Bobby Adekanye is among them. According to reports from Italian outlet Il Messaggero (via Sports Witness), the bright winger’s closing in on a move to Lazio after failing to break into Liverpool’s senior team. While losing talented youngster’s like Adekanye – who’s impressed in the youth leagues – is a discouraging sign, the plethora of future talent means Klopp won’t be worried about it.

Indeed, Liverpool are packed with hugely talented youngsters who are being encouraged to operate in the best way possible. Adekayne’s departure could be the loss of one such talent, but the Reds have many to replace him with. One such is 18-year-old Rhian Brewster, who was a bright spark in England U-17 World cup success in 2017.

These are truly exciting times on Merseyside.

Brewster’s a top prospect who can easily be the long-term successor to Roberto Firmino, going forward. Indeed, he’s pacy, incisive and lethal in front of goal, having the ability to score from every area in the final third.

He can easily light up Anfield with his brilliant goal-scoring prowess in the near future and, along with Bobby Duncan, looks every inch a future Liverpool star. Frankly, what is Adekanye loss can work in Brewster’s advantage, as the bright youngster’s path to the senior team could get cleared up with his compatriot’s departure.

وكان محمود الخطيب مهاجم الأهلي في فترة السبعينيات والثمانينيات قد نجح في تسجيل 37 هدفًا إفريقيًا مع ناديه.

وقال محسن ياجور خلال لقاء عبر برنامج “جمهور التالتة” المذاع على قناة “أون تايم سبورت 2”: “واجهنا صعوبات في هذه النسخة بسبب البعد الجغرافي والسفر الكثير داخل القارة”.

وأضاف: “كان لدينا ثقة كبيرة في قدرتنا على الفوز، رغم أن فريق بيراميدز قوي ورأيناه في نصف نهائي أمام حوريا كوناكري الغيني، ولكن ربما ضياع النسخة الماضية أعطت الفريق دفعة قوية بألا يخسر النهائي عامين متتاليين”.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are interested in rivalling Manchester United and other European giants to the signing of Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, who has a release clause of just £25m.

What’s the word, then?

Well the aforementioned report reveals that the Cityzens are considering a swoop for the Belgian international, with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona also keeping tabs on the situation.

The reigning Premier League champions are keen to find a long-term partner for the outstanding Aymeric Laporte, as all three of John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi have failed to show enough to prove they can fulfil the role.

Club captain Kompany can only play a certain amount of games due to his waning fitness levels, and with Stones and Otamendi both inconsistent in their form, there is space for another defender.

Where does this leave Stones?

A player who has been heralded by Guardiola in the past and is clearly highly-rated by the Spaniard, Stones has found game time hard to come by of late and has started just 20 of the Citizens’ 34 league games this season.

According to The Mirror, the England international is frustrated at his lack of playing time, despite reports that he is set to be offered a contract extension.

The same article reveals that Guardiola believes Stones will eventually forge a partnership with Laporte at centre-back, but if Alderweireld is brought in and played ahead of him – which seems likely or else the decision to sign him would be a strange one – the former Barnsley defender may become even more frustrated.

Would he want to wait until the 30-year-old is done and dusted after already having to bide his time for a consistent spot in the first team?

It is unlikely that signing the former Ajax man would force Stones out of the exit door completely, but given the fact that he is already reportedly frustrated, Alderweireld’s arrival could seriously damage his morale.
