Sunderland given hope of keeping hold of young talent

According to The Evening Chronicle, Sunderland striker Josh Maja has revealed he is happy at the club ahead of contract negotiations.

The teenager is in the final year of his contract at The Stadium of Light, and this is massive news to manager Jack Ross and fans at Wearside, as it would be devastating to lose their star man.

The 19-year-old has already scored seven goals in nine games to help The Black Cats to third place in League One. He is joint top scorer in the league and Ross will be desperate to keep hold him, as the new manager plans to rebuild the club after successive relegations.

The striker is a man that the former St Mirren boss can build his squad around, someone that can spearhead the attack and get the vital goals to carry the club forward, as he has done so far this season.

While no one at Sunderland would want to lose Maja (valued at £225k on Transfermarkt.co.uk), they will certainly not want to see him go on a free transfer at the end of his contract. That is why it is imperative that he signs a new deal, and his recent confession looks very promising for everyone in the northeast. If Sunderland have realistic aims of returning to the top of English football, they must keep hold of their young talent for now.

The Black Cats travel to Coventry on Saturday, hoping to keep the pressure on early season league leaders Portsmouth and Peterborough.

Should this £20m-rated Chelsea star seek a January move away from the club?

Chelsea continued their march towards potential Premier League glory with a resounding 3-0 win over Southampton today.

The Blues are looking excellent value under manager Mauro Sarri, and there is every chance with the way things are going that they could well up top of the pile come the end of the campaign in 2019.

The squad looks strong, players who were once out of the limelight like Ross Barkley are now shining, and Sarri appears to have a way of playing that invokes a reaction from his players on a weekly basis.

However, with success comes the sacrifice of certain players who might not be getting into the action on a regular basis, and one player who is falling foul to Sarri’s tactics is Nigerian wide-man Victor Moses.

The £20m-rated talent has been a regular for the last few seasons but has this time around failed to feature quite as much as he would like.

It is in the main through no fault of his own of wrong doing, simply that a change in system has left him out of the XI in the main, and he might seriously want to consider whether he values first team football over being a squad member at one of the big clubs.

Moses is a talent, and has showed how good he can be in recent seasons. There would be a plethora of clubs waiting to snap him up if he did decide to move on, and Chelsea might well also be keen to cash in on the former Crystal Palace man.

Chelsea fans, what do you think? Can you see Moses leaving? Let us know in the comments!

Rangers fans stunned by Ejaria showing vs Rapid Wien

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to their Thursday night win over Rapid Wien, and they’re heaping praise on Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria.

Alfredo Morelos once again grabbed the headlines on Thursday, as the Colombian’s brace fired the Gers to the top of group G.

Steven Gerrard reverted back to a 4-3-3 after experimenting with two up front in the defeat at Livingston, and the change back to a single striker certainly worked.

While Morelos was the star of the show, scoring the first and third goals and winning the penalty for the second, the midfield was fantastic as well.

Lassana Coulibaly worked his socks off in the holding role, and Ejaria once again showed his class.

The 20 year-old has immense talent, and Rangers fans are stunned by his ability on the ball.

It should perhaps come as no surprise that a young central midfielder is developing so well under Gerrard, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions to his display down below…

Rangers should weigh up a move for the dwindling Mo Diame

Rangers have blown the title race wide open in the Scottish Premiership with a comprehensive victory over Hearts last weekend.

The Gers welcome the league leaders to Ibrox with their opponents unbeaten in 13 games and found themselves three goals to the good after just 32 minutes. Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield all found the back of the net to give Steven Gerrard’s men an unassailable lead. Jimmy Dunne pulled one back late on, but his goal was rendered useless thanks to Rangers’ blistering first-half performance.

The result leaves Gerrard’s side just five points behind Hearts at the top of the table and two behind arch-rivals Celtic. Rangers have won all four of their fixtures at home this season and will hope to continue their Europa League run against Rapid Vienna following the international break. As well as fixture preparation, the former England captain should also be monitoring potential January recruits.

One man he should shortlist is Newcastle United powerhouse – Mohamed Diame. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the Senegal international has been a key player for the Magpies since joining from Hull City back in 2016. He made 31 appearances in the Premier League last season and has featured in all eight fixtures under Rafael Benitez so far this season.

Despite his increasing importance to the first-team, Diame has less than one year remaining on his contract at St. James Park and could be available at a cut-price in January if Newcastle are unwilling to lose him on a free in the summer. The 31-year-old could add some steel to the Rangers midfield, averaging an incredible 3.9 tackles per game so far this season – more than any other Rangers player. Diame is also a huge threat in the air, winning 1.8 aerial duels per game this season (WhoScored).

Adding the Senegalese powerhouse to his roster in January could give Gerrard a welcome boost in the New Year.

Liverpool fans react to Insigne links

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to the latest transfer news, as reports claim they are eyeing a move for Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne.

According to Italian outlet Rai Sport (via 90min.com), both Liverpool and Chelsea are eying a move for Napoli’s Insigne.

The 27 year-old recently extended his contract until 2022, and is valued at a whopping £58.5m by Transfermarkt.

The report claims the Reds will face competition for his signature from Chelsea, who were heavily linked with a summer move.

Insigne has been in superb form for the last few seasons, scoring 44 goals and adding 31 assists in his last 119 Serie A games.

He has seven goals in ten games this season, and scored the winner in Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat in Naples.

The Reds have been slowly but surely building a squad capable of challenging Manchester City, and adding Insigne would certainly make their defence even more lethal.

Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter want Lewis Grabban taken off penalties

Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter were urging manager Aitor Karanka to take penalty duties away from striker Lewis Grabban, despite him scoring one in the 3-0 win over Bolton on Wednesday evening.

The Reds hadn’t won at Bolton since 1991, but Karanka’s side outclassed the home team, with Joe Lolley firing them ahead in the first half thanks to a fantastic left-footed strike.

Early in the second period, Grabban had the chance to double his side’s lead from the spot after he was taken out by Bolton right-back Mark Little. His effort was saved by Ben Alnwick though, meaning the £6m summer signing has now missed three penalties in his 14 appearances so far this season.

The 30-year-old made amends though, with a neat finish and a second penalty, which he put in the same corner but with better results. Grabban now has eight league goals this season but many fans on Twitter still want to see him taken off penalties.

HYS: Where does Shkodran Mustafi rank amongst Arsene Wenger’s worst ever Arsenal signings?

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi made yet another catastrophic mistake last time out for the Gunners in the Premier League when his clumsy and needless tackle in the penalty area saw his side concede a penalty against Crystal Palace.

The German is no stranger to making defensive errors and has failed to consistently impress during his time at the Emirates Stadium. Considering he cost the Gunners, then under Arsene Wenger’s stewardship, more than £35 million to bring from Valencia in 2016 he must be considered as a terrible signing by the north London club.

Wenger signed some duds during his time at the helm, but none as costly as the 26-year-old. The likes of Andre Santos, Sebastien Squillaci, Marouane Chamakh, Mikael Silvestre, Park Chu-Young, Francis Jeffers and Igors Stepanovs were all poor signings, but none cost more than £8 million.

With a price tag of more than £35 million, pound for pound, Mustafi must go down as Wenger’s most unsuccessful Arsenal acquisition.

What do you think, Arsenal fans – where does Mustafi rank amongst Wenger’s worst signings?

2 ways Manchester United can ensure they topple Man City to regain Premier League title

Manchester United’s season has not been the best thus far, as manager Jose Mourinho battles with both squad and boardroom problems it would seem.

The Red Devils look a far cry from being at the level of success they once had under Sir Alex Ferguson, and Mourinho will be hoping that over the busy winter period he can inspire his squad to pick up plenty of points in the Premier League.

Currently sitting some nine points off leaders City, there is a lot of work to do it would seem, but we should never count out a team of United’s stature, and there is every reason to believe that success could still come their way if certain things fall into place.

With that thought in mind, we at the Transfer Tavern have taken a look at TWO things United can do to ensure they topple rivals City at the top of the Premier League table…

Sort out the Paul Pogba situation

Regardless of what is said, there has been something not quite right about World Cup winner Pogba this season.

His performances have at times flattered to deceive, and United need to see the full abilities of Pogba if they are to have success. If Pogba cannot show that, and remains a disruptive influence in the squad, then United simply have to move the Frenchman on and cut their losses while they can.

Keep the faith with Martial

One big plus for United this season has been the form of Anthony Martial.

Goals, assists, and impressive performances from the young French forward have finally got Old Trafford believing he can be the talent so many thought he would turn into when he joined.

If Martial can maintain his form, keep banging in the goals and maintain his levels of consistency, then United have every chance of reeling City in at the top.

Sacrificing Lookman for Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be worth it long-term for Everton

Everton made it four wins from five in the Premier League with a comfortable 3-1 win over Brighton at Goodison Park.

Record signing Richarlison handed the Blues the lead before Lewis Dunk equalised shortly after for the visitors. Seamus Coleman restored the lead after the interval, and the Brazilian grabbed his brace to complete the rout. Marco Silva’s fourth win in five games is a testament to the progress the Toffees have made under his tutelage.

One area of concern could be right-back despite Coleman getting on the scoresheet. The Irishman has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons and has failed to reach the heights of earlier in his career. With Jonjoe Kenny providing little competition, Everton should attempt to land another right-back in the January transfer window.

The perfect addition could be Crystal Palace wonderkid – Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the 20-year-old has been the breakthrough star of the season so far after making the right-back berth at Selhurst Park his own. The youngster has made ten appearances in the Premier League, earning plenty of plaudits for his impressive showings.

Wan-Bissaka is an excellent defender – averaging an incredible 4.4 tackles per game in the Premier League this season – more than any other right-back in the division. The youngster also reads the game expertly, averaging 2.6 interceptions per game (WhoScored). His performances earned him a call-up to the England U21 setup, and Gareth Southgate will definitely be keeping a close eye on his development.

The Englishman will be hard to prise from the Eagles, but reports suggest that Everton could offer Ademola Lookman in a possible exchange deal. Swapping Lookman for Wan-Bisakka could prove to be a brilliant deal indeed.

Revealed: 58% of West Ham United fans want Solanke, but 42% are not interested

[ad_pod ]

Not many would have predicted that West Ham United would need to dip into the transfer window again in January given that they recruited nine new faces in the summer.

However, Manuel Pellegrini has been linked to a handful of players ahead of the transfer window re-opening.

The Hammers are dealing with a few injuries in midfield, but it is up front where the club are reportedly looking to also strengthen.

According to a recent report in The Sun, the East London outfit are one of a few clubs considering a move for Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

The publication states that the Reds are open to offloading him on loan for the rest of the season in order to rack up some competitive minutes.

West Ham’s main attacking option is Marko Arnautovic, but his back-ups, including Javier Hernandez, have struggled to deliver when called upon.

We asked you if Solanke would slot well into the Hammers’ team, and there is clearly a divide, with only a small majority believing that a transfer is a good idea.
