Sean Dickson put Warwickshire’s patched-up side to the sword with a season’s best 146 not out as Kent cantered to 338 for 2 on the opening day of their Specsavers County Championship match in Canterbury. In the best batting conditions of the summer, Dickson featured in two century stands for the sixth-placed hosts that ensured Warwickshire, in seventh, had plenty of leather chasing to do during a one-sided opening day of 96 overs.Batting first after winning the toss, Zak Crawley and Dickson made hay with their season’s best opening stand of 132 against a makeshift Bears’ attack shorn of six first-choice bowlers through injury or unavailability.With such a lengthy list of absentees, Warwickshire named two loan signings in Ben Mike, brought in from Leicestershire, and Toby Lester, as well as James Wainman, the former Yorkshire left-arm seamer, recently signed on a short-term deal as a free agent.Sensing their opportunity, Dickson and Crawley latched onto anything loose to post 50 at a run-a-minute with Crawley plundering five boundaries to Dickson’s brace. Their stand of 132 was Kent’s best first-wicket partnership on the ground in Championship cricket since David Fulton and Joe Denly hit 123 against Middlesex in 2006.Dickson and Denly, now in his second stint with Kent, both ploughed on adding 54 inside 16 overs before Denly, tied down on 22 after an hour at the crease, needlessly flung the bat at a wide one from Matt Lamb to be caught at slip.Kent secured a first batting bonus shortly before tea, then Dickson reached his second century of the summer early in the final session from 212 balls with 10 fours. With a second batting point under their belts, Dickson and Daniel Bell-Drummond tried to accelerate, but Jeetan Patel, the Warwickshire offspinner and skipper, sent down 21 frugal overs either side of tea to keep the run-rate in check.Even so, Kent’s third-wicket partners notched a century stand in 34 overs with Bell-Drummond reaching his half-century from 122 balls that also raised Kent’s 300.Patel finally rested, allowing Lester and Wainman to share the second new ball, but Warwickshire’s wicketless run increased to 43 overs as Kent reached stumps without further alarm with Bell-Drummond on 68 not out.

Tottenham Hotspur have already acted swiftly and efficiently to get their business done early this month, with Ange Postecoglou overseeing the signings of Ragu Dragusin and Timo Werner from Genoa and RB Leipzig, respectively, in recent times.

Those two deals have helped to bolster the Greek-Aussie's options at opposite ends of the pitch, although it is in the centre of the park where further bodies could still be needed, amid reports that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be on his way in the near future.

With just over 24 hours left to run in the winter window, rumours are rife that the north Londoners could seek to prise Conor Gallagher from rivals Chelsea, although the Englishman seemingly isn't the only exciting midfield talent who may be on his way to N17.

This comes following reports that an unnamed Premier League club had lodged an €8m (£7m) offer for the Djugardens starlet, with it perhaps the case that is the Lilywhites who have made their move for the 17-year-old.

Unsurprisingly, the teenager is only in the infancy of his senior career in his native Sweden, having made just 29 first-team appearances for his current side to date, after previously featuring 12 times for former club, Brommapojkarna – prior to departing last year.

That offers limited data for those at N17 to assess, although the indication is that Bergvall would be a worthy alternative to Gallagher, having notably chipped in with three goals and one assist in 28 games last term – the Chelsea man also providing three goals and one assist in 2022/23.

A potentially more long-term and affordable option for Postecoglou and co than Gallagher, the one-cap Swede also boasts the benefit of his sky-high potential, with data analyst Ben Mattinson even going as far as to suggest that he is "similar to [Jude] Bellingham" in a way, due to his ability to feature in a variety of midfield roles.

Bellingham is, of course, currently shining at Real Madrid with 18 goals and eight assists to his name already this season, having previously mirrored Bergvall in bursting onto the scene at the age of just 16 during his time at Birmingham City.

The towering Englishman appears to have that gift for being able to glide up the pitch from a deeper role while also feeding others with an incisive forward pass, showcased by the fact that he ranks in the top 17% among his European peers for successful take-ons per 90, as well as in the top 1% for progressive passes per 90.

Such traits appear to be shared by the even younger Bergvall, with Mattinson stating previously: "Bergvall is a strong ball carrier and good at dribbling in tight spaces. He loves to progress play either through carrying the ball or his top passing ability."

While the 6 foot 1 gem has a long way to go if he is to be able to emulate the 2023 Golden Boy winner, such comparisons bode well for the impact he could make under Postecoglou's watch, thus making him a worthy target to consider in place of the costly Gallagher.

Twelve days after his heroics in the World Cup final, Jofra Archer made a highly impressive return to action with two wickets as Sussex Sharks tied with Surrey in a Vitality Blast thriller at Hove.The 24-year-old showed no ill effects from the side injury which troubled him throughout the World Cup during four hostile overs, bowled in three spells at a cost of 21 runs, during which he picked up the wickets of Aaron Finch and Surrey’s top scorer Ollie Pope, who was dropped on 16, for 43.Fifteen days after removing him for a golden duck in the World Cup semi-final, Archer had Finch well caught on the square-leg boundary by Delray Rawlins. He returned in the 14th over with a superbly disguised slower ball to dismiss Pope, who had just hit four boundaries in an over off Danny Briggs and appeared to be guiding Surrey to victory.Archer had bowled in the nets under the supervision of England’s medical staff earlier in the day and could now be in the Ashes squad when it is named on Saturday.A 6000 sell-out crowd had given Archer a standing ovation when he went out to bat earlier in the evening and they were treated to a thrilling finale. – Creio que esteja sim (na melhor fase da carreira). Me encontro hoje um atleta maduro e pronto para os desafios que me são dados, e coroando esse momento maravilhoso eu estou realizando um dos meus maiores sonhos que é de ser pai. E com certeza sonho em vestir a camisa de um grande clube brasileiro, respeitando as camisas que já vesti obviamente, mas todo jogador sonha em disputar um Brasileirão por uma grande equipe – destacou, e completou analisando sua evolução nas finalizações.

– Tenho treinado bastante (finalizações), era uma característica que eu explorava pouco, por gostar mais de dar assistências. O camisa 14 também destacou que muitos não têm condições de ficar sem receber seu salário, sobretudo aqueles que defendem times de menor investimento.

– É difícil opinar pela paralisação. O futebol vive 2 realidades… Temos jogadores que por méritos tem suas vidas estruturadas e outros que buscam esse lugar ao sol, que as vezes vivem com menos que um salário mínimo. Famílias dependem desse sustento – analisou, e finalizou.

– Porém o futebol hoje está protegido e seguro, seguimos protocolos rigorosos antes de jogos e durante os jogos, não acho que somos ameaça para infectar outros. Cada jogador deve entender sua responsabilidade e se cuidar fora dos gramados. Se seguirmos assim, não vejo motivos para paralisar – ressaltou.

Palace are among the top flight's lowest-scoring sides, with Everton, Burnley and Sheffield United being the only sides to score less. They're also just five points above the drop zone, so Glasner has a real job on his hands to turn the tide and make something positive of this disappointing campaign.

Regardless, the Austrian has expressed his delight over joining Palace and can't wait to get started.

"I am very happy to join Crystal Palace," said Glasner on signing for Palace (via BBC).

"I am looking forward to working with the talented squad, meeting the club's supporters and experiencing the Selhurst Park atmosphere I have heard so much about. It has been a pleasure to meet with Steve [Parish, chairman] and Dougie [Freedman, sporting director], and I am looking forward to working with them to achieve our goals."

The tactician has been tipped to bring more physicality, and it is believed Glasner will "assert" himself at Palace right from the very get-go.

"I think Glasner will assert himself by bringing a sense of physicality to Crystal Palace and also probably more of a modern approach to their attacking set-up than they perhaps had recently," said journalist Dean Jones to GiveMeSport this week.

"That won't come overnight. This squad isn't really capable of changing too much in the short term, but it'll get funded in the summer. Judging by what he's done so far in Germany, and judging by what he's capable of from a coaching perspective from people I've spoken to over there, they seem to think that actually, this is a really good appointment for Crystal Palace. After all of the protests from fans and accusations of them lacking ambition, this could actually prove to be a good appointment."

There is rightly a lot of excitement around Glasner's arrival, but according to Sportslens and reporter Jones, he may now have been dealt his first big headache.

Guehi won't entertain new deal as big clubs look to steal him

This comes in the form of news on defender Marc Guehi, who is the subject of interest from big clubs in England such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham.

Jones writes Glasner "faces a big challenge" in his new job as the manager could lose both Guehi and Michael Olise this summer, but in the former's case, there are suggestions he wouldn't even entertain staying past 2026.

"Guehi, 23, is contracted to Palace until 2026 and current suggestions are that he would not be interested in the idea of a new improved deal at this stage."

Guehi has made 22 appearances for Palace this season, with goalkeeper Josef Bursik calling him "massive" and an "absolute tank" of a player.

كشفت مصادر صحيفة عن مصير هيرنان كريسبو، المدير الفني لفريق العين الإماراتي خلال الفترة المقبلة، وذلك قبل أيام من ملاقاة الأهلي ببطولة كأس الإنتركونتيننتال.

ومن المقرر أن يلتقي الأهلي مع العين الإماراتي في المباراة التي تجمع بينهما يوم 29 أكتوبر الجاري بالقاهرة في بطولة إنتركونتيننتال.

وكانت تقارير صحفية قد انتشرت في الفترة الأخيرة بشأن وجود اتجاه لدى مسؤولي العين لتغيير المدير الفني الأرجنتيني.‏

وأفادت صحيفة الاتحاد الإماراتية عبر حسابها الرسمي على موقع التواصل الاجتماعي “x”، أن مصادر وثيقة بنادي العين تنفي وجود أي نية لتغيير الأرجنتيني كريسبو مدرب الفريق.

وأوضح التقرير أن هناك تأكيد على تمسك الإدارة بالاستقرار الفني للعين الإماراتي.

وكان العين قد نجح في سحق منافسه أوكلاند بالدور التمهيدي للبطولة بسداسية مقابل هدفين، ليصعد لمواجهة الأهلي بطل قارة إفريقيا على ملعب استاد القاهرة الدولي.
