2023 signing now "wants to leave" Chelsea, they’ll allow it for £35 million

It's reported that a 2023 Chelsea signing could look to depart next month, and the club may well sanction his January sale for around £35 million.

Chelsea's form under Pochettino this season

Winning five, drawing four and losing six Premier League games so far this term, manager Mauricio Pochettino has so far struggled to inspire a consistent run of form.

Chelsea now "vying" to sign World Cup winner they think is "perfect"

Boehly has his eyes on another in-demand sensation.

ByEmilio Galantini Dec 8, 2023

Chelsea had looked as if they were turning a corner before a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Newcastle last month. Avoiding defeats to big-hitters like Arsenal and Man City, Pochettino also ended Tottenham's early-season unbeaten run with victory over them in north London.

However, since then, the humbling at Newcastle and most recent 2-1 defeat away to Man United at Old Trafford has highlighted the real problems facing Chelsea's squad still. Pochettino, speaking after his side's latest defeat, pointed to injuries and insisted that the loss was nowhere near as detrimental as their trip to St. James' Park.

"Now is not the same because I think we miss players, we play nearly with the same players against Brighton, with one less for 60 minutes," said Pochettino.

"One day more for Manchester United to prepare the game. See the bench, many young players try to help us. That is not an excuse but we need to talk about the reality and that is the reality. I am not disappointed because they gave everything but maybe we didn't match their energy, they were a little bit more aggressive than us.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.

"We were competitive as we created chances, maybe enough to draw the game. But when the result is 2-1 and you get nothing, you get more critics and try to find different reason why we didn't win. I think we need to be calm, keep going, trying to help the players and now we need to lift all of the players because we need to be ready Sunday."

One player who didn't take part against Man United, though, was winger Noni Madueke – who didn't even make the matchday squad. The 21-year-old, signed from PSV Eindhoven for around £29 million in January this year, has struggled for opportunities under Pochettino this season.

Noni Madueke.

Making just six league appearances, Madueke is having to contend with plenty of competition for places, with a report from Spain shedding some light on his uncertain future.

Madueke "wants to leave" Chelsea

Indeed, according to a Spanish media source, Madueke "wants to leave" Chelsea and the west Londoners could be willing to sell him for around £35 million next month. However, as things stand, a loan is the more likely scenario for him as he seriously considers quitting Stamford Bridge in favour of more game time.

'As long as there is no swearing, the line doesn't get crossed' – Virat Kohli

Tim Paine, meanwhile, said he enjoys watching Kohli play, and felt he ‘brings out the competitive spirit in a lot of people, which is great’

Sidharth Monga in Perth18-Dec-20182:50

Did not have any problem with my dismissal – Kohli

The mutually-agreed-upon line in this series seems to be drawn at swearing, and despite all the hype around the chatter between the two teams, the two captains are happy with each other’s behaviour. Since the third day, which featured Virat Kohli’s displeasure at the contentious low catch that dismissed him and his banter with Tim Paine later in the day, the clamour for the next exchange has reached a fever pitch, ending with the host broadcaster advertising a clip of Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja having an animated discussion as a sign of all not being well within the Indian camp.Jasprit Bumrah had said after the third day’s play that India were surprised that the soft signal, in the case of the low catch to dismiss Kohli, was out, but Kohli seemed to have gotten over it by the end of the match. “I don’t think I showed any displeasure at the dismissal at all,” Kohli said. “A call was made on the field, and that’s it. It was done. Australia played better cricket than us, and they deserved to win.”Kohli’s reading of the banter was plain: “As long as there is no swearing, the line doesn’t get crossed. That’s it.”In one of the exchanges, when the umpires tried to restrain him and Kohli, Paine was heard telling the umpires it was just conversation, and that there was nothing wrong with that. Paine reiterated that, and seemed to agree with Kohli that as long as nobody swore or got personal, it was fine. “That is the main part. I don’t think the amount of it matters, it’s the nature of it and the language,” Paine said. “What is said is important, not how much.”A lot was said, or possibly observed, because everybody is on the lookout. Kohli told Paine he was staring at 2-0 if he messed up when batting in the second innings. He also allegedly told Paine he was the best player in the world, and Paine just a stand-in captain, a claim denied to ESPNcricinfo by Indian team management. In retort, Kohli was reminded he was batting last, “big head”. M Vijay was asked how could he possibly like Kohli “as a bloke”. A lot of it went on, but neither side has reported any personal abuse on the field.”I don’t think we did touch to be honest,” Paine said of the near chest-bump. “It got pretty close. But it is what it is. It was a highly competitive Test match from both teams. There’s a lot on the line, and both teams desperately want to win, and sometimes that stuff happens.”When Paine was dismissed on the fourth afternoon, he turned back to look as he walked back, but he clarified there had been no send-off. “I actually had spoken about a crack to KL Rahul about two minutes before I got out, so he said did that came off it,” Paine said. “Nothing, not a send-off.”Things heated up between Virat Kohli and Tim Paine in the first session•Getty Images

Paine dismissed the idea that it might be annoying to play against Kohli, who loves, and sometimes goes looking for, a confrontation. “Not to me, I love it,” Paine said. “I enjoy watching him, I always have. I think he brings out the competitive spirit in a lot of people, which is great, and I’m sure it was great to watch.”One of the underlying threads of the chatter is the medium through which it has reached homes. The scrutiny from the cameras and the stump mics seems unparalleled. The invasiveness can sometimes affect how players behave, and also play. Kohli said there was no threat of that happening to him.”As long as there is no swearing out there on the field and there is no personal attacks, the line doesn’t get crossed,” Kohli said. “There is banter going on. Even at Adelaide there was banter here and there… it’s Test cricket at the end of the day, it has to be competitive. You can’t say that people aren’t going to try and get you out in any way possible at all.”With the stump mics and cameras and all these things, honestly when the bowler is bowling you aren’t thinking whether the stump mic is on or the camera is on or not. And when you are facing that ball, literally there is no one in the stadium apart from you and that ball. So, these things are totally irrelevant, and you are actually not aware of them when you are on the field. It’s never bothered me, it’s never been something that’s of importance to me to be honest. For me it’s irrelevant.”For all the talk of banter, this is perhaps the best-natured Australia-India series Kohli has been a part of. “Nothing compared to 2014 to be honest,” Kohli said. “But look, it stays on the field whatever happens. In competitive spirit it stays on the field, I am not going to go into details but to be honest it’s not of importance for me to speak on and it’s something that’s done. We are looking forward to Melbourne now.”Whatever happens, at the end of the series, there will be a beer or 35 shared between the sides at the end of the series. At least there will be an invite from the Australian side. “Tonight ? No,” Paine said, when asked if the custom was to invite the opposition for beers after every Test. “We definitely will after the series. That’s always been the thing that has happened, and will always be the case.”

Importante resultado e grande atuação no Dérbi

A gente é focado no processo.

O que me move é o trabalho.

O’Neil benches Bueno in predicted Wolves lineup vs West Ham

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be hoping they can continue their decent run of form in the Premier League against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

The Old Gold have secured four points from their previous six matches and with the recent European clash surely sapping a lot of energy from the West Ham squad, Gary O’Neil could take full advantage with a fresh starting XI.

Following the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, O’Neil provided an update ahead of the clash against the Irons with regard to who is fit and who will miss out and Rayan Ait-Nouri should return to the squad.

The manager said of the defender: "Rayan should be back and available, hopefully. He came through training well today."

With this in mind, we at Football FanCast predict the starting XI that will take to the pitch on Sunday afternoon…

1 GK – Jose Sa

There were concerns for Sa during the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last month after he was substituted during the first half with what looked like a back injury.

He subsequently missed the 1-0 win over Burnley a few days later, but he returned to the starting XI for the draw against Forest, and it appears he is back to full fitness.

The Portuguese ‘keeper will be aiming to keep just his second Premier League clean sheet of the current campaign, and it could go a long way to securing victory.

2 CB – Max Kilman

Max Kilman

The centre-back has captained the club in every single league tie during the current campaign and he is emerging as a reliable player under O’Neil.

Wolves have conceded 26 goals in the top flight so far and Kilman will be hoping he can help the club secure a couple of clean sheets over the next few games to boost their top half ambitions.

3 CB – Craig Dawson

The veteran defender joined from West Ham back in January in order to add some experience to the backline and it appears to have done the trick.

The 33-year-old has missed just one league match this season and that was due to suspension and he has played his part in wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

4 CB – Toti

After making only 17 Premier League appearances during the 2022/23 season, Toti has become a mainstay in the heart of the defence this term, already featuring in 13 matches.

Alongside Dawson and Kilman, the 24-year-old has been in solid form as O’Neil utilises a 3-5-2 formation and with a little bit more consistency, they will soon begin to keep some more clean sheets.

5 RM – Nelson Semedo

Nelson Semedo for Wolves

Against Forest, O’Neil deployed a 3-4-3 formation and this should be expected again against West Ham on Sunday.

The 30-year-old has missed only one Premier League tie so far this season and he will be unleashed in a more advanced role yet again.

6 CM – Joao Gomes

Joao Gomes

The former Flamengo midfielder was signed during the January transfer window for a fee of £15m and having just won the Copa Libertadores a few months earlier, it was looked upon as a shrewd signing.

The Brazilian has started 13 league matches so far this campaign, although he has failed to get on the scoresheet or grab an assist during these games.

O’Neil will unleash him in the starting XI against David Moyes’ men in the hope he can control the midfield.

7 CM – Mario Lemina

Like Gomes, Lemina was also a January signing under Julen Lopetegui and he helped the Old Gold avoid relegation during the second half of last term.

He has forged a solid midfield partnership with Gomes this term and has contributed with two vital goals. His first effort came against Newcastle United as the Molineux outfit secured a 2-2 draw, while his latest goal came against Spurs and proved to be the winner in a 2-1 victory.

O’Neil will be hoping for much of the same tomorrow.

8 LM – Rayan Ait-Nouri

Hugo Bueno didn’t enjoy the best of games against Forest and with the news that Ait-Nouri could be ready for the clash tomorrow, the manager should have an easy choice to make.

The £10k-per-week Algerian starlet was dubbed “superb” by journalist Liam Keen in 2021 and could certainly make all the difference on the left-hand side of midfield.

9 RW – Pablo Sarabia

Following a quiet start to the season, the Spaniard burst into life against Spurs last month. The former Paris Saint-Germain winger entered the fray with just three minutes of normal time remaining, yet he finished the game with a goal and an assist.

The 31-year-old has also added another five assists during the season and O’Neil must unleash him against West Ham in the hope that he can have a positive impact on the right wing.

10 ST – Hwang Hee-Chan

The South Korean forward has recently signed a new extended contract with the club, committing himself until 2028 and this will be a massive boost for the manager.

His form this term has been nothing short of outstanding. Throughout the entirety of the 2022/23 season, he found the back of the net on just four occasions in what was a poor spell.

He has been a man reborn under O’Neil, however. The 27-year-old has already racked up nine goals so far during 2023/24, smashing past his total from last season and there could be much more to come.

With the former RB Leipzig gem leading the line, Wolves could cause plenty of problems for the West Ham defence tomorrow.

Pujara 130*, Agarwal 77 as India take the day

India’s No. 3 made his third century of the series, helping his team into a position of strength to perhaps take more than a share of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Report by Alagappan Muthu02-Jan-2019He just bats and bats and bats. Cheteshwar Pujara came to the crease in the second over and refused to budge until the end of the day. He has faced 1135 balls in this series. As a consequence of that, he’s made 458 runs. One hundred and thirty of them came in Sydney where India have established a position of strength to perhaps take more than a share of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.Australia would believe they haven’t quite lost that much ground. They’ll be thrilled to have kept Virat Kohli to a mere 23 and Ajinkya Rahane for 18. And considering they went in with only four specialist bowlers, a score of 4 for 303 at stumps is a reflection of some decent work. The only problem is that India keep finding ways to be better.4:44

Manjrekar: Agarwal shouldn’t give up starts like this

Or more accurately, Pujara keeps finding a way to be better. At lunch, he was 16 off 59. He was sussing out the conditions, deciding what shots to play and which bowlers he needed to worry about. The conclusion – it seemed – was that he didn’t want to be driving on the up. Over the first 50 deliveries that the Australians bowled outside his off stump, he left 15, defended 17 and drove at only three. Only three. No letting those hands stray from the body. No giving the easy edge to slip.At tea, he was 61 off 138, showing mastery over Nathan Lyon and disdain for part-timer Marnus Labuschagne, who was hit for three fours in an over. Pujara averages 178 against spin bowling since January 2018. And he ruddy well showed it. Australia knew the value of his wicket, which was no more apparent than when they burned a review after Pat Cummins beat his inside edge in the 15th over. Several overs – and barely any further chances later – Pujara whipped Mitchell Starc to the fine-leg boundary to celebrate his third century of the series. He went to stumps unbeaten. #NuffSaid.Mayank Agarwal was the other major contributor for India. He made 77 off 112 deliveries but those bare facts do little to capture how he overcame a sustained effort by the Australian quicks to bounce him out. Soon after drinks, when it became clear that sideways movement was in short order, Starc came back for his second spell of the day and hit the opener on the glove and the helmet. An unplayable delivery at 146 kph clanging into the head is liable to scramble the brain a bit – and he took further blows on his body too – but he didn’t give up.Agarwal’s wicket – trying to hit Lyon over the top and being caught at long-on – looked terribly off. But had he succeeded, and planted doubt in Australia’s mind about their holding bowler, at a time when they had dropped the allrounder from the XI, their big three quicks might have had an even tougher outing.Cheteshwar Pujara celebrates his hundred•Getty Images

Starc, who is one wicket shy of 200, Cummins and Josh Hazlewood did their best to stay threatening through the day, bowling at 140 kph and above. But India were resolute. Pujara was resolute. And after a good day’s work – that started with winning the toss – they are in a position to reap the advantage of some bold selections. The SCG has not been as conducive to spinners over the last 10 years as it has been in the past, but the experts still suggest it will break down and turn big later in the game. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav – included for this Test with R Ashwin injured – will hope that’s true.India’s top order then got to work procuring the scoreboard pressure that will further enhance the bowling attack. Well, all except KL Rahul. His struggles as opener continued, a good length ball from Hazlewood grabbing his edge and going to first slip.Mike Hussey, who was on commentary at the time, recalled a chat he had with Rahul in Melbourne where the India batsman said he felt like he was in an awkward phase of his career. Hussey said that Rahul, at the start of his career, was focused on batting time but now, having had T20 success, he wants to take the bowlers on whenever he ends up under pressure. His game is lacking balance, both at the crease and in the mind. He is in need of help. And maybe also a break. There were 33,678 people at the ground for the first day of the New Year’s Test. Steve Waugh’s son Austin was on the bench as one of Australia’s substitutes, soaking in the occasion. The locals cheered their team on. The fast bowlers kept charging in. There was expectation in the air. For wickets, for tension, for mayhem.Pujara disagreed. Big time.
