The Boston Red Sox have come to terms on a deal with former Dodgers' ace Walker Buehler. Buehler threw the final out in the 2024 World Series to close out the New York Yankees in five games, which gave the Dodgers their second title in five years.

Buehler now heads to Boston on a one-year, $21.05 million deal according to multiple reports. Russell Dorsey of was the first to report Buehler's new deal, which includes incentives and is pending a physical.

The 30-year-old right-hander recorded a 5.38 ERA and 1–6 record in 16 starts for the Dodgers during the regular season. His fortunes turned in the postseason as Buehler ended the postseason title run with 10 scoreless innings, which he capped off with a save in Game 5 of the World Series after recording the win in Game 3.

Boston traded for former Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet on Dec. 11 to bring in a new No. 1 starter. Now, the Red Sox add Buehler to a new-look rotation alongside Crochet, Lucas Giolito, Tanner Houck and Brayan Bello. Patrick Sandoval is included as well, who is expected to return from Tommy John surgery toward the latter half of the season.

Buehler closed out the Yankees' most recent season and now joins their bitter rival.

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was targeted with 60 per cent of all racist attacks online in Spain, according to a staggering new study of the 2024-25 season. The Blaugrana forward reportedly received twice as much online abuse as Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, in a new publication which highlights the awful extent of the vitriol directed at La Liga's top players.

New study highlights extent of awful abuse aimed at Yamal

In a study obtained by Spanish publication The Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia (Oberaxe) has shed light on the sheer scale of the abuse suffered by Barcelona wonderkid Yamal.

According to the report, Oberaxe were able to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect 33,438 attacks online in Spain during the 2024-25 La Liga season, with 62 per cent originating from Facebook and 10 per cent from X (formerly Twitter).

The study claims Spain international Yamal received 60 per cent of the abuse, which is twice as much as Real’s Vinicius, who was reportedly targeted with 29 per cent of all attacks.

Vinicius’ Real team-mate, Kylian Mbappe, was also the subject of three per cent of all attacks, while Yamal’s Barcelona colleague, Alejandro Balde, received two per cent. Real winger Brahim Diaz and Athletic Club forward Inaki Williams were reportedly targeted with two per cent of all attacks, according to the study.

Analysing how much abuse was aimed at La Liga’s clubs, the study claims 66 per cent of all attacks were directed towards Real Madrid (34 per cent) and Barcelona (32 per cent). Real Valladolid (17 per cent), Valencia (eight per cent), Athletic Club (six per cent), and Real Sociedad (six per cent) make up the top six teams that received the most hate speech online.

Five people were handed suspended sentences for abusing Vinicius

In May 2025, five people were handed suspended prison sentences for racially abusing Real forward Vinicius in what La Liga described as an "unprecedented" ruling in Spain.

The 25-year-old was racially abused during Real’s league clash with Valladolid in September 2022 as he walked past fans after being substituted at Jose Zorrilla Stadium.

In a statement, La Liga said: ”Thanks to the efforts of La Liga, which filed the complaint and initially acted as the sole private prosecution – later joined by the player Vinicius and Real Madrid, as well as the Public Prosecutor's Office – this exemplary ruling has been achieved.

"This judicial decision represents an unprecedented milestone in the fight against racism in sport in Spain, where, until now, rulings had addressed conduct against moral integrity with a racial aggravating factor.

"The fact that this ruling explicitly refers to hate crimes associated with racist insults reinforces the message that intolerance has no place in football.”

AFPSpanish authorities recommend fine over alleged Rashford abuse

And in October, Spain's anti-violence commission recommended that a Real Oviedo supporter be fined £3,521 (€4,000/$4,625) for allegedly directing racist abuse towards Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford. 

The incident is alleged to have taken place during the Spanish champions' 3-1 victory over Oviedo in La Liga on 25 September – a match in which the Manchester United loanee recorded an assist.

In a statement, Spanish authorities said: "La Liga detected the images on social media and filed a complaint with the National Police.

"Subsequently, analysis of footage from the stadium's Organizational Control Unit (UCO) cameras allowed for the identification of the alleged perpetrator. The processing of this proposal will be contingent upon the final decisions made in the criminal proceedings.”

The authorities are yet to confirm when a final decision will be taken.

Tonda Eckert has been asked if he is hoping to become the next permanent manager of Southampton after guiding the club to a win over QPR on Wednesday evening.

It has hardly been the season that Southampton would have expected. In the 2024/25 campaign, they became the first team to be relegated from the Premier League with as many as seven games left to play. Even still, they were expected to be in contention for a swift return to the top flight.

Having established himself as a promising young coach in Ligue 1 with Reims and Lens, Will Still was appointed as Southampton’s new manager in May. Despite an influx of summer signings, however, Still struggled to have the impact he would have wanted at St Mary’s.

After just two wins in 13 Championship games, Still was dismissed following a loss to Preston, which was Southampton’s third successive defeat. In his place, Eckert was named interim boss as the club continue their search for a new manager.

Eckert answers questions about Saints future

Eckert’s first game in charge of the Saints was an away clash against Queens Park Rangers. The 32-year-old, picked out personally by sporting director Johannes Spors in the summer to take charge of their under-21s, guided Southampton to a 2-1 win at Loftus Road.

As reported by The Daily Echo, the young coach was then asked about his desire for the permanent job.

Evidently, Eckert is focused solely on guiding Southampton through their immediate future, with the club set to host Sheffield Wednesday in their next league game. Should they win, it would be the first time this season that they have won consecutive matches in the Championship.

Given their current position in the league, though, it would be a massive gamble for the Saints to hire a young and inexperienced manager, regardless of how much potential they may have.

Saints could turn to veteran to fill managerial vacancy

Alex Bregman potentially played his last game for the Houston Astros on Wednesday as the team lost in the wild-card to the Detroit Tigers.

The longtime Astros third baseman is set to become an unrestricted free agent this winter, and it's possible Houston won't pick him back up. However, many fans and even his teammates hope the Astros make an offer to him.

Jose Altuve was especially emotional after Wednesday's game, giving Bregman a big hug on the field and telling him "You're coming back."

Altuve spoke to media after the game and advocated for his teammate to be brought back to the organization next season. He can't imagine not playing on the same team as Bregman.

"Now, it's time to make it happen," Altuve said. "We're not going to be the same organization without him. In my mind, there's not a chance this is the last one."

Bregman admitted he hadn't really had time to process Wednesday potentially being his final game in an Astros uniform. He tweeted out a simple message to fans later in the night: "Thank you Houston."

Altuve's been an Astro his entire MLB career, as has Bregman. The two stars have been teammates since Bregman joined the Astros in 2016. They've won two World Series titles together.

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh has revealed 49ers Enterprises interviewed two mystery manager candidates to take over at Ibrox.

New Gers head coach Danny Rohl has begun to make additions to his backroom staff, as Sascha Lense has joined the club as first-team performance manager and Matthias Kaltenbach as assistant coach.

Lense most recently worked alongside Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday and was previously part of Ralf Rangnick’s backroom team at Manchester United. Kaltenbach came through the coaching ranks at Hoffenheim, where he had a six-year spell as assistant coach, working alongside current Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann. He joined Ajax’s first-team set-up in 2022 as assistant coach to Alfred Schreuder.

The duo joined first-team training on Wednesday morning ahead of the trip to Norway for the Europa League game against Brann on Thursday night. Rohl, who was appointed as Russell Martin’s successor on Monday, is expected to bring in another coach with Rangers connections.

As many know, things could have been so different had the Gers completed their moves for Steven Gerrard or Kevin Muscat, but it appears there were also two further options in the mix who are yet to be named.

Pep Guardiola has lashed out at Premier League referees, but claims he will never get them to explain their decisions after being on the receiving end of questionable calls for 10 years. The Manchester City boss was left incensed after Anthony Taylor and his team of officials – including those in the VAR booth – allowed a Tyler Adams goal for Bournemouth to stand during Sunday's clash at the Etihad Stadium.

How USMNT star Adams contributed to Guardiola's anger

City led that contest midway through the first half courtesy of another effort from prolific Norwegian striker Erling Haaland. Parity was restored, however, when USMNT star Adams hit the net. He did so despite the home side being of the opinion that Gianluigi Donnarumma was impeded.

The hosts' Italian goalkeeper argued that his arm had been pulled by David Brooks at a corner, preventing him from getting a fist to the ball. With Donnarumma unable to make proper contact with a delivery flighted into his penalty area, Adams was free to bundle home from five yards out.

City’s protests fell on deaf ears, with Donnarumma being booked for arguing his case. Guardiola was left riled on the touchline, as he turned to supporters and urged them to make more noise and get behind his players. The Catalan coach brought another contentious incident up afterwards, but was quick to explain why he will not be seeking an audience with Taylor and Premier League referee bosses.

But I said many times, I know all the referees, I know them one decade perfectly, what is going on in this stadium. I know it.

“I don't call. I don't have time. My schedule is three games, I have games. I don't have time to waste my time talking. I said to [Taylor] after when we see each other, tell me if it's a foul or not because I'm waiting.

“If it's a foul or not, just tell me. Just take a look. It's fine. They're brave here. In the Etihad they are brave, so brave. I'm one decade here and we know each other quite well. I'm so pleased with what we achieved with Man City, despite everything, so it has been so good. So good.”

Guardiola explains why he will not meet with match officials

It is not the first time that Guardiola has taken aim at Premier League officials. Having been at the Etihad Stadium since 2016, he has previously said of trying to steer clear of debates with those that have a difficult job to do: “I go to the game and I never ever know who is the referee. When I see their face, it’s ‘oh, I remember that face’. I never in my life talk about the referees before, during or after – never ever, ever.

“A mistake can be a mistake and we are sad, and when it’s in our favour we are lucky. But I don’t waste my time. I have to economise, I have to choose with my time exactly what I have to do. I don’t spend one second (thinking) about referees, especially when we lose. All I am concerned about is what we have to do to play well. The decisions are the decisions and during the season there are moments that help you, sometimes not.”

Replacing Salah is an impossible task at Anfield, but Liverpool will have no choice but to get as close as they can to doing exactly that when 2027 arrives and the Egyptian’s contract comes to an end.

He will go down as one of their greatest players of all time, sitting alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish, alongside Steven Gerrard and others. That’s the level that the Reds will have to replace.

Although a different type of player to goalscorer Salah, Liverpool could look towards a creative type rather than a player of the Egyptian’s ilk now that they’ve got an out-and-out No.9 in Alexander Isak.

Rather than replacing Salah’s goals with one player, it seems as though those at Anfield have commenced their plan to duplicate their star man in the aggregate.

Liverpool readying Williams offer

According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are now readying a €75m (£65m) offer to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club. The Spain international has found himself on their radar even after signing a new contract instead of joining Barcelona in the summer.

Whilst that £65m fee may seem like a hefty price, it is still below Williams’ reported €90m (£78m) release clause. If Liverpool are serious about securing his signature, then they may have no choice but to spend big once again rather than eyeing a cut-price deal.

Beating defenders at a better rate than Yamal, one of the world’s best wingers, Williams is not someone to be overlooked. Having been praised as “electric” by analyst Ben Mattinson, the 23-year-old is a star in waiting and needs that big move to arrive.

He stayed loyal to Athletic Club in the summer, but Liverpool must test that loyalty when 2026 arrives and Salah enters the final year of his current contract at Anfield.
